Contribuiți la feedbackI finally had the chance to try Beard Papa's at Metrotown. I had never really paid much attention to the place before, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that their cream puffs are closer to the size of a tennis ball, not a ping-pong ball as I had assumed. I arrived on a Sunday morning just after 11 AM, so the baked goods were still fresh. However, only four flavors were available, not the full selection advertised on the franchise website. The cream puffs held up well on the 10-minute trip home and were still crisp when I cut them in half with a sharp knife. The shell was thin and crispy, not chewy at all. The filling was not as generous as advertised, but still tasty. The custard cream was thinner than expected, but had a decent flavor with vanilla seeds throughout. The Strawberry Cream had a weak strawberry taste, and the Cookie Crunch Puff had a crunchier shell with added sweetness. The Dulce de Leche puff was a vanilla cream puff with a hint of dulce de leche. Overall, the cream puffs were good, but if you're looking for a strong fruity flavor or a creamier filling, you might want to try a different bakery.
I purchased Vancouver coupons through a school fundraiser, but the restaurant does not accept them. It would have been helpful if they had signage indicating this policy. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The cream puffs were not enjoyable, especially considering the high fat and calorie content. If you're going to treat yourself, opt for the real cream puffs. However, the green tea ice cream cone was delicious.
My wife and I are fans of this restaurant. The pastries are always fresh. I recently tried their eclairs and loved them as well. The only reason I deducted one star is because of their pricing. I find it a bit expensive compared to other similar restaurants.
Utter disappointment. First off, I'd like to say my family and I have been a big fan of Beard Papa's for years. I've bought cream puffs and cheesecake from here numerous times. It's only been until the recent year or so that the quality and standard has -seriously- dropped. I bought a box of 6 matcha cream puffs this past saturday. The cream puff was a little disappointing because I found it underfilled. The flavour was still fine, but as it was not my first time, I do hold it to a certain standard that the cream should be fully filled as in the past. And it's a good thing my brother and I ate two when I brought it home 3 hours after, since the rest of the box (even though I put the whole box in the fridge immediately) went sour the next day we ate it. Sadly, a previous time before this, it was the same case, but I blamed it on a bad batch... In the past I've been able to leave the cream puffs -out- of the fridge for at least a couple of days and it was still edible. I don't know if they changed the formula, or the handling of the puffs are just unsanitary? It's honestly a little mind-boggling! So in essence, I spent $6 each on two cream puffs. Huuuuuuuge waste of money. I don't think I will ever go back to this location again. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Oh, and a last little kicker, they gave me a box where one of the latches on one side was ripped. Their solution? A staple. My cream puffs almost dropped out on me at Target because obviously the staple doesn't hold (and I didn't notice the staple when they passed me the box, not that the 3 ladies there would've said anything anyways)
Decreasing Quality. I used to buy cream puffs here quite often but recently, the quality has dropped a lot. The puffs are now so small and flat with a pinch of cream inside. For ONE puff that costs around $2.15, can they at least put more effort? It used to be filled fully, but now I taste more pastry shell than cream. Nothing wrong with the Richmond branch, so from now on, I would recommend going there instead if you want to get cream puffs. I don't know if the Metrotown branch changed owners or what... but definitely NOT worth the price now! I would rather go to the pretzel store next door for a quick bite.
