Writer’s Block - Bundoora

Diversity is the spice of life and it seems that all of us have differing views of this place. I like it - others don't. Thankfully we are all different and like different aspects of a place to eat or hang out. Staff were great, friendly and easy going. The coffee is good and with such a close locale to the Uni, it gets busy. Make sure you go inside the library and turn right as soon as you enter and you'll see the Writer's Block cafe counter. There is usually a queue because this place is popular. Price - pretty reasonable but considering mostly students visit - could be cheaper.Love the art on the wall. The other decor - blah!Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking okay.Has a captured audience so it will continue to fly.

I returned to the Writers Block café for the opening of a new art exhibition. Nine works from the university's art collection were on display. Students, staff and visitors can drink and eat in the close company of fine art, and there are not many places where that is possible.

If you're after a good quality coffee and you're on the La Trobe University campus, find your way to the library in the Agora and there on the ground floor you'll spot café tables inside a wall of glass. Go inside the library and immediately to your right after you enter you'll see the Writer's Block cafe's counter, probably with a short queue waiting to order drinks and light food. Prices are reasonable but not as cheap as you might expect in a student zone; this café is more suited to staff, visitors, parents, and mature-age researchers. On the side wall you'll see artworks: the hangings change periodically, in consultation with the art gallery on campus (LUMA). I can't say the rest of the layout and decor are impressive: think plastic tables and seats in lime and dingy white, and a messy zone behind the counter. My most recent visit to WB was on a weekday after a meeting that was held on the campus. The café has begun to open on weekends: worth knowing.

I love this place The best coffee like Anywhere Baristas in Carlton can move over because the coffee here is that good.

Writer's block café has brought the trendiness or an inner city laneway café to La Trobe University.
