We are coming from Italy and this little Italy doesn't look like Italy at all :)) was pleasantly surprised! These colorful houses are fantastic! The atmosphere itself is just great there. Of course everything is overpriced there because it is super touristy. This part of Buenos Aires together with Puerto Madero really made my day and left the best impression about the country of Argentina. Would highly recommend this place to any age!!! It is just fabulous. It is full of everything. It is the best place to experience the local culture... There are many ships, restaurants, souvenirs, hand made items, tango dancers, paintings and painters etc... Just wonderful! However be aware of your belongings.
Menu suggests size and quality of dishes that are a fantasy.Bill showed a charge for "tip". This is illegal in Argentina -- an illegal add-on for a table of 2 people. When I asked why it was there, I was lied to twice. Then, the waiter stated, "ok, if you want it off, I'll take it off" (!) An additional 15%.
We had a fun late afternoon meal. The service was friendly and staff were helpful as my Spanish language skills are weak. There was more than enough food in our serving and so we packaged up the leftovers for a snack the next day. Nice presentation and fresh tasting.
La Piccola Italia Restaurant!Do not be fooled by glowing reviews from earlier years! This place is not fit to be in the food service industry. The only service we got was when we were quickly ushered to our footpath tables.... It steadily went downhill from there! The waiter took our drink order only to return confused and take the order again.. Some 15 mins later he tried to take our food order but was confused again so our guide wrote our orders down for him. About an hour later some of our food began appear in dribs and drabs but the waiter had no clue who ordered what and it was all plonked on one plate! The empanadas that took 45mins to arrive were mostly cold! Our guide was frustrated and went to enquire why it was taking so long and also why the customery bread baskets and sauces were not supplied to our table. The waiter went and grabbed bread baskets from nearby tables and came out and plonked them on our table. Not aware of this, when we tried it we thought the bread must have been toasted but soon realised it was stale from being out for hours on other tables! We waited almost an hour and a half for our pizza and it was a shocker-stale base , a few slices of square processed ham, tinned mushrooms-nothing like the advertised photo! Of course we were all very annoyed by this time-some members of our group were still not eating! We decided there would be no tips and our tour guide was furious when they tried to charge us the crockery tax -when they had failed to supply basic napkins, fresh bread, condiments and food in good time. The owner would not budge when we tried to pay and neither would we thanks to the support and determination by our tour guide. We spent at least 30mins arguing our point-with the owner and waiter being quite rude and threatening in a stand over way. When the owner threatened to get some of his "friends" involved our guide suggested getting the police involved and I felt a little unsafe as the owners offsiders appeared to grow in numbers. In the end our tour guide won out -with no crockery service paid and no tips due to appalling treatment! The food was shocking and the service was appalling. Do not go there!
The worst restaurant me (and my company) have ever been. We went there without having read anything, we had no wi'fi on our mobiles and that was a disaster! The salad was tiny and no taste at all. The french fries was something you also could not eat and the worst was the meat! It came long time later (we asked them if they forgot that we had ordered meat as well) and we couldn't eat it at all! And i mean it. So, for first time in my life, after travelling in 40 coutries, we called the waiter and asked him to change the meat, as we could not eat it (3 friends and one woman with us, who could also not eat her salad). After some minutes they came back and of course, the miracle didn't happen. The meat was the same, or similar with the previous one. Of course we just asked the bill, they charged some of the meat, we paid and left. The worst is not only that we paid for something awful, but that we stayed hungry and of course we didn't want then to risk again and go somewhere else. After 1-2 days i remember my girl-friend (the one who was with us and she is Argentinean) sent me a link on facebook, and it was an argentinean magazine article, that described the restaurant as the worst in Argentina. Bad we fount out after going there! Anyway, just avoid THAT restaurant and you will have a better time in La Boca, for sure! And of course, while leaving, i took a picture, so i would not forget the name to advice other people to avoid it and i upload it here as well.
