Jack the Ripper Bar - Buenos Aires

The bar is well located, drinks aare very well prepared, prices are standard, the bar itself ooze style, wonderful music (if you like indie-rock/brit-pop) and very kind staff. The very main thing I was disappointed about was the fact that smoking is allowed inside, all over the place. Probably I'd go more often if it wasn't for that.

Found this bar across the street from where we were staying and had seen it on a few lists of recommended bars. Went in on a weeknight well before midnight, but just missed their happy hour. The drinks were fine and were regularly priced (to us from the US), but wasn't super impressed with the dark ambiance and old sofas. Glad it wasn't out of our way to visit.

Not quite sure what to expect but after my first martini realised they have the best soundtrack of the best of British I have ever heard.

I went with my best friend to this place several times but tonight I really got to appreciate the theme of the place and the style. If you like dark places: you got to come here; if you like rock, metal, alternative music: you got to step inside; if you enjoy feeling like you go back in time while you drink: you got to give it a try. If you love trying to get wasted while talking to a bartender that disagrees when he needs to and agrees with you whenever he feels like just being real and not nice: you got to go there, get a drink and hear the crazy stories the have to share. I loved this place because it is one of the few bars that keep prices not that high (for the area with inflation knocking at the door) and everything you see and feel is real (specially the creepy feeling that you get when you look up to the stairs in the second floor or the goosebumps all over your body when you try to go to the bathroom), the bartenders won't be nice to you if they don't like you or if they feel you have an energy that DOES NOT belong to the place (They will be very respectful and direct.). They stay true and real to their idea of the bar they want. It is nice to see that next to so many 5 star hotels and fancy restaurants this house-bar stays here out of context. Frozen in time like a legend, just like Jack The Ripper, everyone knew, everyone heard but nobody really had an idea how. Another cool thing about the place is all the hidden little secrets the have throughout the building wich I guess is a reminder of the concept of the place for the people working there and the few clients that are super curios or that get their attention caught by a detail that hits the subconscious when you get tipsy.

But sometimes that is what you want in a bar. Drinks were well made and happy hour pricing added to the happiness. Bottoms Up!
