China New Star Open Kitchen - Brooklyn

This is a classic New York Chinese restaurant. Newly renovated decor. White linen tablecloths, good size portions and attentive staff. Lots of waiters eagerly take orders and get your food out quickly, nice and hot. We all went home well fed and with doggie bags.

We've been going to China New Star for years but lately we've noticed the food is terribly greasy, sometimes burned and the cuts of meat are fatty and poor. The egg rolls, which used to be delicious, are often soaked in grease and completely inedible. The service is always good and the delivery guys are courteous and prompt but honestly the food isn't what it used to be. We were supportive during the pandemic and hopeful that this was just a rough patch but the last few times it's been a waste of money. We're still hopeful they'll improve.

I love this restaurant. My boyfriend and I visit it often and they're always very nice and the food is delicious. I usually get the steamed vegetables with shrimp and chicken and it also comes with a soup and dessert. Very reasonable prices and you get a huge amount of food. Enough for one or two meals with what you get to take home. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Great Chinese food in the neighborhood. The restaurant inside is very clean and spacious and nice decoration. The cocktails are great too and you can order the cocktails delivered home! My husband and I order from here frequently as our go to for Chinese food. I usually order Hunan chicken extra spicy or shrimp and chicken in garlic sauce. The pepper steak my mother in law always orders. My husband orders shrimp in garlic sauce and egg fried rice if you don't like the pork in it. The appetizers are also good: Schezuan wontons really tasty has a peanut flavored sauce. The regular pork fried dumplings I'm not a fan of, the dough is too thick. All the food is very fresh and not oily or salty. Always will be a place we order from!

I'd rate China New Star three and a half stars. We placed an order for takeout over the phone. They got everything right on the order; nothing missing and no mix ups. It was also ready in under 20 minutes which was greatly appreciated. I had the Szechuan wontons, scallion pancakes, and vegetable lo mein. My favorite item was dredging the broccoli for another dish in the leftover sauce for the Szechuan wontons. All together, ordering was a breeze and I felt the experience was very professional.
