Bed-stuy Fish Fry - Brooklyn

I visited this restaurant twice before writing my review. The woman taking orders, who I assume was Jamaican, was extremely rude—so much so that I felt like I was at a Jamaican restaurant asking for extra gravy, rather than at a soul food spot. On a positive note, the tall chef from Jamaica was very friendly. The food itself is decent, but I believe the original Bed-Stuy Fish Fry in Bed-Stuy offers better options. Overall, I would rate the food as 3 out of 5.

I ordered the catfish dinner, which comes with two sides, and chose sweet potatoes and collard greens, along with a small macaroni and cheese and a slice of hummingbird cake. As someone from the South, I'm quite familiar with catfish, and I have to say this wasn't real catfish—it probably was Swai. My friend’s fish was undercooked and needed to be redone, and thankfully she caught that before we left. The hummingbird cake also lacked walnuts, which was disappointing. The sides were acceptable, but overall, the staff clearly needs better training in customer service; they ignored my complaints entirely. Additionally, the staff were walking around the cramped space carrying heavy items without giving any verbal announcements for safety. I wish I had taken pictures. Just a heads-up: this isn’t real catfish, and I genuinely believe I deserve a refund.

Everything was excessively salty. The mac and cheese had a sweet flavor, and the sweet tea was so sweet it resembled syrup. It just wasn’t right. I won't be returning! Food rating: 1/5.

Great food and service. Mac and cheese is pretty good. Whiting is great. Blackened Salmon is really good There's no seating so the ambiance isn't too relevant. This is one of the slower locations I've been to when it comes to custom orders such as grilled blackened salmon or sauteed spinach. The pre-made food and the whiting comes quickly. Average meal price with dessert will be about $28

Much less rice in the salmon and shrimp order than usual. Could be due to my late order.Food: 2/5
