We ordered a large pepperoni pizza, a small eggplant pizza, a bunless hamburger with no side, 3 children 's drinks, a soda for hubby and two cosmos during happy hour. Which apparently they don 't honor happy hour at the table. This is a first. We eat out often and at both small and large and this is the first I 'd ever heard of not honoring happy hour at the table. Our food total was 37 and change and our bar tab was 28. I called to complain after and I was told this this is normal. To be frank this was not even decent cuisine. Much less excellent or good. The pizza was watery and not good. My husbands eggplant pizza not good. My burger while I acknowledge was bunless had no flavor and very greasy. The response to my complaints was essentially ask us next time you order so you better understand the extra charges. I work in management, I was dumbfounded. The manager could have turned this experience potentially around by offering a partial refund on the bill or something so I 'd consider giving them a second chance. At this point having to read the menu as if I were signing a car lease doesn 't appeal to me to avoid all the up charges for less than ok food. Seemed like it could have been a weekly regular for my family due to location and a nice vibe to it but no way now.
I went for a visit here with a party of 4 people on a Monday night. The food was decent. My husband ordered boneless wings, and I the linguini with clam sauce. The wings were good, and while my pasta was a little heavy on the garlic, the dish was overall tasty. For little Broadalbin, I'd consider this a nice stop for a snack or glass of wine perhaps. The service left some to be desired. There was one other table in the restaurant at the time we were there, and maybe 3 or 4 patrons at the bar. There were two employees taking care of customers and our server appeared to also be bartending. When our appetizer arrived, my husband asked for a different sauce for our mushrooms. She never brought the sauce and while I understand we are all human and bound to forget things, it appeared the reason she may have forgotten my husband's request was that she was very busy flirting with some of the bar patrons and exchanging numbers with them. I would presume they received excellent service and wanted for nothing. :
If you want REAL Russo's go to the home tavern in Amsterdam on Division Street. They make a reasonable effort here but it falls short somehow. Examples side salad comes in a small round bowl, not a plate so is hard to work with....you get dressing in a small cup three times as much as you can use....waitress is nice but doesn't even ask if you want coffee or desert. Food was acceptable but nothing special. I say go to the downtown original Russo's.
First the good. The place looked okay about what you would expect and relatively clean. The waitress was friendly and attentive. And the appetizer chicken wings were very good. Should've gotten up and left then and there. The bad. My poor mom's greasy gluten-free pizza. At least for her sake I hope it was gluten-free. Spent half her time trying to degrees the cheese. Then there was my calzone. What can I say I like my steaks medium rare but not the dough on my calzone. And the ricotta cheese as deep and thick as a sandbox. Way too much cheese they made up for it by short changing my pepperoni and onions though.
I've been here twice already. The first time I asked for chicken parm to go and when I got home, I realized they gave me eggplant parm but it didn't matter because I ate it anyway and it was delicious! I just came back and ordered the stuffed shells with one meatball. Another really delicious meal! I look forward to coming back regularly.
