Petit Chou - Broad Channel

I was excited to try their choux, but unfortunately, my visit didn't go as planned. I tried to make sense of the disappointment: maybe going an hour before closing wasn't the best choice, or perhaps the extreme heat and humidity had an impact. I ordered the Passion Fruit Raspberry Puff, but the choux pastry shell was soggy and lacked the lightness and crispness I was expecting. Although it was filled with raspberry compote, it was overwhelmingly sweet, completely drowning out the passion fruit flavor. The curd was also too thick and heavy, making it difficult to finish. Priced at $8, it felt like a poor value given the many better options available in town. On a positive note, I did get a 20% discount with my student card.

What a delightful find in the neighborhood! With a varied and consistently excellent selection, it's hard not to want to try everything eventually. I'm particularly fond of the assorted éclairs, especially the pistachio flavor, and the fruity cheesecake slices are both refreshing and indulgent. Even on days when I try to be disciplined, I simply can't resist their signature chocolate chip cookie. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient; they remember your face and your favorite orders. It’s truly a hidden gem in the East Village. Tres bon!

My husband bought three eclairs, and while they were tasty, the pistachio eclair had a small rock in it that nearly made me break a tooth. I strongly recommend that they pay more attention to their kitchen practices to avoid incidents like this. It’s completely unacceptable and raises concerns about their cleanliness. I won’t be coming back.

This is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best, French-style bakeries in the East Village. Their pastries are consistently outstanding. The quality is simply remarkable, surpassing every other dessert shop in the neighborhood. They also offer a delightful range of savory items, but those tend to sell out quickly, so you need to act fast if you want to try their amazing cream cheese and scallion danishes. While you're there, don't miss out on their chocolate chip cookies; they are fantastic, with a crispy exterior and a perfectly soft center.
