We randomly happened upon this place on a Tuesday night after cancelled plans at another restaurant. Long story short, we’ve returned many times and this is confidently now our favorite restaurant in NY.Some places you try and love the food, staff, and setting is great but it doesn’t necessarily draw you back. L’Accolade does. Not only do they nail everything, they do so in a way that feels welcoming, familiar, and easy. The whole experience here feels less like other high end french restaurants in NY, and more like a great low key fine dining restaurant in France. They don’t feel like they’re trying hard, even though it’s genuinely some of the best tasting (and presented) French cooking in NYC. There’s some dishes I would put up against Le Bernardin. The prices are completely appropriate, even during these inflationary times. The wine selection is always on point. The staff has never been anything but good. A true 5 stars so far every time we’ve been.
Had my birthday dinner here and the wine menu and all 3 courses were very good albeit a little on the smaller side (expected for French cuisine). The steak tartare and the veal cheek cavatelli were standouts. The tuna crudo is good but looks more like a tartare. The natural wine menu is really broad and diverse; one of the best menus for natural wine that I’ve seen in New York City. Considering the very reasonable prices, this is a no brainer.
Jacques received me very warmly and subsequently checked all was fine. Great waiting staff, truly dedicated and not the typical American superficiality. French is spoken!! The happy hour oysters were disappointing, tasteless, must have been sloshing around in fresh water what a shame. The Tartare though is a revelation. Finely cut cubes (no tenderloin), nicely seasoned and presented under a cloche, topped with Parmesan shavings and a raw quail egg, accompanied by shrimp crackers on the side. That dish left nothing to be desired. The bread, by the way, sensational: fresh, warm, homemade sourdough olive bread and olive butter to make you dream. The waiter was knowledgeable about the wines which were poured well and at the right temperature. There's also a waitress who's service is exceptionally well bred and attentive. I chose the backyard garden, and the waiter removed awning for me which was nice. Nice, clean restroom with international cookbook selection. Looking forward to my next visit.
I highly recommend this French restaurant to anyone. It serves one of the best duck dishes I’ve ever had at any French restaurant. The watermelon soup with crab meat is incredibly refreshing, and the beef tongue with chestnut is outstanding. The mango pistachio tart is perfectly balanced in flavor. The lobster spaghetti is delicious, although the scallop sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. I prefer my lamb chop to be spicier and saltier, as the lamb felt a bit plain. The oysters are fresh and tender, and the steak is beautifully presented. Overall, it's definitely worth a visit to try this restaurant out!
