Shish Tawook Platter (Chicken Kebab) was delicious but the portions are extremely small compared to its location down town in the east village.

Au Za’atar is my favorite restaurant in the city! Such a cozy, intimate atmosphere with a buzzing environment. The perfect spot for a small dinner or a big table with friends. The staff was so kind and helpful and the decor of the restaurant is truly beautiful. I went with two friends and we ordered a range of appetizers on the menu. Providing a guide for non-native eaters who are curious! Fattet Al battenjan: Eggplant dip with fruit and crunchy toppings. This was such an interesting and refreshing mix of flavors! One of my personal favorites. Sfiha bi lahme: Square-shaped meat pies. So delicious and felt like a warm hug! Humus bi lahme: Hummus with lamb meat. Lamb was tender and hummus was very olive-y and flavorful. Shanklish: Feta/cucumber/tomato spiced dip. Very fresh and light as an appetizer. Sojouk bi jibne ajin: Spicy sausage and cheese flatbread. So yummy and not too filling! Perfect for sharing. For our entree, we ordered the mixed grill platter supreme (lamb, steak, chicken, sausage, shrimp) and it was amazing! Perfect amount of food for three people to split — the lamb and chicken were our favorites. The meat was served on a hot metal and wood plate and was all perfectly cooked. Definitely a great menu item if you’re looking to sample a range of different types of food. We ordered the halawet el jibin (sweet cheese with rose water and pistachio) for dessert and it was the perfect way to finish off our meal! So light, refreshing, and perfect if you like floral-flavored desserts. I love the other location too, but this spot is truly something special! You’re sure to leave feeling satisfied and appreciative of authentic, flavorful Lebanese cuisine! The pride that the hosts, waiters, cooks, and owners is so evident through the atmosphere and the food. Such a gem in NYC and we feel so lucky to have found them
