Big pub with decent beer. never too busy. beautiful place for a chilled drink.
Eager to sample the legendary Sunday roasts A friend and I booked a table a week in advance for the following Sunday 27th March. Due to its popularity We 'd not been successful in our previous booking attempts so thought it prudish to think ahead. Delighted at our success more so as a family member was visiting Bristol and we could treat them to a good meal. On the Saturday I received a call from the rose explaining that they 'd had a gas leak so couldn 't honour the bookings however the gone to the efforts of securing an alternative Sunday lunch for their guests bookings at the Eldon house pub. I was at work and had absolute trust in there alternative arrangement and recommendation, after all The Rose is reputed to have possibly one of the best Sunday lunches in Bristol. I of course agreed. I rang the Rose of Denmark to discuss our very disappointing experience of the alternative that we were directed to. I was told he "didn 't know why we 'd been sent there, maybe, someone had just rang around and found a place that had vacancies "nor was he awair that it had changed management recently. No explanation but a sorry for what is definitely the worst £12 slop I 've ever been fobbed of with as a Sunday Roast. To add insult to injury we were even hurried to finish on meal because they had hired the dining area out that afternoon for a private party not that we needed a reason to leave as soon as possible. The food was sparse and subzero standard, the corn fed chicken that I and another of our party requested turned out to be Quorn. All 3 of us were disappointed. Only one finished the food. I 've written a full review for the Eldon house on their appropriate review sites. Rose of Denmark.. please at the very least know where you 're sending your customers if you can 't fulfill a booking. We booked with you you because of your reputation yet we were sent on your recommendation to what was tantamount to a Butlins canteen.
We have been frequenting this pub for many years before rugby and football matches. Don't be discouraged by its sports-themed atmosphere. This is not your typical rowdy, budget-friendly pub. The staff are always friendly and willing to offer beer tastings. The pub has a unique and cozy atmosphere, and the beer and food are top-notch. While the beer may be a bit pricey, it is well-maintained. We enjoyed a few pints of "Neck Oil" and steak and chips before heading to watch the Bristol and Worcester games. It was the perfect lunchtime pint.
I thought I’d take my boyfriend here for his birthday as he’d mentioned a roast for a while. We sat down with our friends and ordered. They didn’t have anything dairy free so they have us some sausages instead. Our partners ordered the meat options. Then the meals came out and half the items were missing. No Yorkshire puddings, no stuffing and we were not made aware of this before. When we asked we were informed they’d ‘not had an order’. Yorkshire puddings are simple enough to whip up? We then asked if we could have a reduction off the bill. They said no and they gave us no reason why. The manager never came over once to apologise or added on any other extras to make up for the bare bones of a roast. I wish I’d taken a photo it was tasteless, dry and very sad to look at. Do not eat here they really don’t care.
