Contribuiți la feedbackI knew nothing about this place before entering but absolutely fell in love with it. I felt instantly transported to a cool bar in London or Melbourne, a world away from a Brisbane side street just off the cbd. The place is dark, funky, eclectic and underground, with a speakeasy feel about it. Especially with the little booths and small side tables. The mix of people was great too- all age ranges and backgrounds. The bar staff were friendly and quick and there was a good range of drinks. They main thing was the entertainment, we watched an amazing guy on acoustic guitar who just sang and joked the night away, I would have happily stayed all night but we had dinner reservations. I should mention the toilets- they're very 'studenty'- not dirty, but covered in ironic, funny, silly, sweary graffiti (as are a lot of the walls in the bar), be warned you can accidentally spend too long in there just reading the walls!
Heading out for the evening or finishing off a business dinner? Shoot across to Sonny's for a great underground bar scene with great live music. The drinks are great, plenty of seating and a great atmosphere, we'll be back again!!
What a fantastic little bar in one of Brisbane's little lane ways. They have simple but delicious selection of burgers and nibbles, plenty of tap beer and cocktail options, and live music! We were invited by a friend who was touring with his band, and not having been to many of these types of bars or gigs, we really didn't know what to expect.Upon entry we were greeted by an awesome atmosphere created by a well stocked bar, thousands of fairy lights across the ceiling, and very rustic jar candles on each table. A stage down one end with coloured lights and red velvet curtain created a wonderful little theatrette for the band, indicating that live music was a part of Sonny's heart and soul, not just an afterthought. First things first - time to order a drink and dinner. The bar tender was friendly and approachable, and looked like he enjoyed being there. My wife ordered a cheeseburger, myself a chicken burger, and a joint side of fries. Meals took a little while but not too long. The cheeseburger was big! Heaps of fillings, but not just for the sake of making a big burger, it looked like everything served a purpose. I didn't taste it, but by the reports of my wife it was excellent, both by her words and how satisfied she looked after each bite.My chicken burger was simple but effective. Crispy seasoned chicken pieces with a (not too) spicy sauce, a couple of fresh lettuce leaves, wrapped in a brioche bun. It was essentially chicken, lettuce, mayo - but WAY better. But the fries were what really impressed us. Perfect shoe-string fries, with a smokey tasting seasoning, with a generous tub of garlic aioli. Once again, a standard bar menu item, done with love and care, to produce a unique and special result. The tap beers were cold, as they should be. We drank them out of Coopers Pale Ale, and moved onto Stone
A great venue and live music, what more could you ask for! Oh good beer and they had that too! I did fall in love with their Ginger Beer on tap. A great little find. Visited a couple of times during our stay and will go back on our next visit.
From the moment you walk down into this place you know you've found something unique. Great bar, great Music, great food, great staff! There are a few live music venues around that could learn a lot from Sonnys!! Keep up the good work boys! Its a Gas!!!!
