Contribuiți la feedbackI visited initially to see if I wanted to hold my mother’s wake at the Eagle following her funeral at Bentleys crematorium. I found the pub cosy, clean, with a welcoming atmosphere. The function room was a good size with lots of tables and chairs, and enough space to put up a large photo montage, flowers, battery operated candles and a large picture of Mum, Bev the manager was very friendly, professional and accommodating having catered for many wakes she was willing to adjust things to our needs. The buffet was excellent, plenty of choices, well presented, and the vegetarian food was clearly marked. Bev kept me updated on the bar bill and we were able to keep in budget for the 3 hours we were in the function room. We were a large family group aged from 9 months to 97 years and everyone commented on how good the venue was. The staff worked very hard behind the bar, yes guests had to queue up to be served at the bar when we arrived but it wasn’t a problem. There was plenty of parking and during the wake some of the local deer and fawns appeared in the rear garden to eat carrot chunks that had been put out for them, and entertained our guests. Once the majority of guests had left my partner ordered a meal of ham egg and chips (at about 8pm) and he said it was delicious. If you’re looking for a place to hold a function I can recommend The Eagle. Thank you to Bev and her team for making my Mum’s wake such a nice event she would have loved it. I must warn you to steer clear of this restaurant. The welcome is lacking, the service is subpar, and the food is disappointing. We spent £40 and regretted it - my ham, egg, and chips and my wife's scampi and chips tasted like they were made with low-quality ingredients. It's a shame that this place remains open when there are so many better options out there. I urge you to spend your money at a place that values your patronage.
Please stay away how this pub is still open its amazing . The wellcome was like walking in to a funeral parlour we had lunch in the garden which I must say is very well maintained I had ham egg and chips my wife had scampi well the ham was full of fat the chips were burnt the wife scampi was nasty and cheap the salad was dry and old and the worst thing was the bread it was cheap happy shopper bread please please spread your money on a pub that deserves your tried.
Manager needs a personality transplant, totally rude. We had booked the back room for a wake. After ordering drinks and paying for them at the bar he said (and not only to me, I heard him say a few times to different people) you need to go back to the room as if we weren 't welcome to stay in the bar despite the pub being open. He interrupted a short conversation (not like he was waiting for ages) to bark a question that had already been communicated. No hospitality skills whatsoever, I 'm surprised they are still trading. The food at £12 per head was not the best, very sloppy coleslaw, tough chicken and sandwiches that looked like they 'd been made yesterday. I won 't need to visit this pub ever again.
I was extremely disappointed with my experience when I visited this restaurant with my daughter for a Sunday roast. It used to be a great place for traditional British food, but the roast we had was one of the worst I have ever had. The only reason I didn't give it a 1 star rating is because our waitress was friendly and attentive to my daughter's needs. I ordered the roast beef and my daughter had the roast pork, along with an additional side of cauliflower cheese. The beef was tough and clearly pre-cut and left out for too long. The pork was okay, but also pre-cut and dry. The portion of pork crackling we received was burnt on one corner. The roast potatoes were bland and tasted like they came from a cook with little experience. The vegetables were overcooked and lacked flavor. The gravy was watery and lacked depth. The Yorkshire pudding was flavorless and seemed like it was cooked from frozen. The cauliflower cheese was disappointing, with a lack of cheese flavor and over-gratinated. The apple pie we had for dessert was store-bought and served with cheap instant custard. The prices for drinks were outrageously high. This restaurant, which used to be a local favorite, now seems like it could use some help from Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.
