Hugos - Bowen Island

Hugo's is a wonderful addition to West Vancouver. The restaurant serves delicious food and offers the convenience of takeout orders with just a simple phone call. We have dined here multiple times and have enjoyed the creative and flavorful menu. The pizzas are especially delicious. While the place is still new and the staff is young, the combination of the location, food quality, and reasonable prices make it a standout gem in the neighborhood. Highly recommended.

Food was underwhelming - we stopped off after a trip to Vancouver Island rather than cook at home. Great location but needs a injection of some passion for food.

We went on a Saturday night and there were about 11 of us. We were almost the last to arrive and we're surprised to see not even glasses of water on the table. They should have been taking drink orders right away. Appy and meal order taking was equally leisurely, lack of knowledge on what the daily specials specifically were was a surprise too. There was a singer later on and he was fantastic. Joyful, happy man with quite an impressive resume. The staff were very friendly too and thoroughly enjoyed the musical entertainment too. It's always good to see the staff be moved by the entertainment! Anyway, I heard no complaints from anyone about their food. I had the burger and truffle fries. It was tasty, but it's really the live entertainment that would drive us back.

We regularly eat out, like all types of restuarant/food. Was recommended this place on way into Vancouver from Whisltler. Nice quiet setting , casual food including pizza for kids. I had bisque soup which was fantastic. just a chilled out place , not pretentious but has style. Cheap for (West) Vancouver. New chef apparently cooked for film industry. If an elderly lady asks to try your dessert it will be my mother in law who lives close by....Apparently music/bands at the weekend too.

After a bit of a hiatus, I went back to Hugos this summer with the family and some out of town guests for what I thought would be good pizza. Five build your own pizzas were ordered and not a single one would get a passing grade. The spinach, artichoke, mushroom pizza had about 6 spinach leaves on it and the artichoke pieces were so small compared to what used to be given. There was a pizza ordered with chicken and spinach. After the pizza came out of the oven, several cubes of chicken that were too large were tossed on. It looked ridiculous and unappetizing, the person didn't even eat ⅓ of it. Maybe dice the chicken and spread it around evenly? The sauce I used to love isn't being used and the pizzas had cheddar cheese. The pizza crust was without taste. I could go on and on, but you get the drift. A nice family meal on the last day our guests were in town was totally sub par. It's so disappointing when a restaurant changes or cheapens their ingredients or does not tell the new cook to not change a good thing. I won't be back. My previous review should be disregarded ... and by the way, the reply from the restaurant to my review about adding more dessert and vegetarian options never came to fruition.
