This restaurant may not look impressive from the outside, but once you step inside, the staff are lovely and the Asian cuisine is some of the best I've ever had. They are very accommodating and attentive to how you want your food prepared. We are regular customers and always appreciate our dining experience there.
We sat at one stand and the table was clear cleaned since the last customer(s) had and left. We asked a waitress named sandy to clean the table, but from it I felt a terrible bad attitude as she reacted, I see that in a totally rude tone. when she felt the table, she struck accidentally/interestly (not exactly knowing what) about a glass free tee (which was bought to us when we first sat down) and it spiled over the floor and almost on one of us. terrible experience!
We experienced what I believe to be discrimination in this establishment. Upon our arrival, we were seated at a noticeably dirty table, despite there being clean ones available. When we asked for metal cutlery, we were given plastic utensils and told that only those were available. However, Asian customers who arrived after us were given metal knives and forks. We ordered three dishes, but only two were brought out. When we questioned this, the waitress claimed we had only ordered two, even though I had seen her write down all three in her notebook. I would recommend finding another restaurant unless you are Asian. It would be helpful for the owners to put up a sign indicating that only Asians are given certain privileges, to avoid any confusion. The name of the restaurant may be Happy Diners, but western customers may leave feeling anything but happy.
My companion and I stumbled upon a Hong Kong style cafe/restaurant today after our lunch. Intrigued by the banner outside boasting the best Hong Kong style milk tea, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant was bustling with customers when we entered. I opted for the rice noodle with pig knuckle braised with preserved taro paste from their noodle soup menu, along with a milk tea and a milk tea/coffee. The braised pig knuckle was expertly cooked - tender and flavorful without feeling greasy. It was surprisingly delicious. The milk tea (a strong English breakfast tea with evaporated milk) and milk tea/coffee (a mix of tea, coffee, and evaporated milk) were smooth and aromatic. We both agreed that it was the best we've had in Victoria. Happy Diners is open from Wednesday to Monday, from 9 am to 10 pm, and closed on Tuesdays.
