With a group of teens on holiday in France and this was ideal to satisfy their hunger. Very reasonable meals you pay for your meat or fish and then help yourself at the buffet for veggies, rice, potatoes, fries, pasta.... and you can go back to the buffet again and again! Meals in France don't do plain veg as we know it UK Ireland. They stew or roast them up into sauces (ratatouille etc. so this makes a change for children who get fed up with them.
In the Shopping Mall Merriadeck, self service with a variety of hot and cold dishes, (large portions) drinks and wine. Ideal for a quick cheap lunch while shopping or exploring the city.

We arrived in Bordeaux with a 9 hour jet lag. Additionally we don 't like the 7pm local dinner start time anyway. We found this cafeteria in a shopping mall near our hotel. It offers hot meals throughout the day. We were a little unclear off how to proceed but I found a cashier who quickly explained it to me in clear english even though he was quite busy. The make your own salad for fruit plate price is based on the size plate or bowl you use. This is far superior to what you see in the US where they want to weigh your plate. There is big hot dish menu above the cashier and you pick out what you want. You pay and get a ticket and take thaat to the hot food or grill station where they prepare your order. Then if it is part of your entree you can go and add vegetables from a buffet table unlimited it says. I think I saw one person go back for just a smidge more but I don 't know if that 's the normal thing. It was nice to see that most people didn 't really stack up their plates with all they can carry. The portions are nice, my wife and I shared a chicken dish with ample vegetables and a salad plate. They also have a nice variety of desserts and prepared salad plates. It is cafeteria hot table food so it does tend to seem a little over cooked but we found it delicious and just what we wanted. We didn 't have anything from the grill. There was a great variety of vegetables (I love brussels sprouts and they had those) and potatoes. They also have a sandwich station where you can one cold or toasted. Toasted doesn 't seem to come with lettuce and tomato. Great for a quick meal or one outside normal restaurant hours!
