I want to say first that I stayed next door to this restaurant and it was access. If the food wasn’t good, I would say so. I come down most years around the 2nd or third week in September and many times they are closed for the season. I’m glad they were open this year. I had the coconut shrimp one night and the Grouper tacos another night. Both were very good. They also had a choice of IPAs, so I was happy. I think I’m going to try their lunch one day, it seems like quite a bargain.
Lunch was great as usual at Big Hickory! My wife and I went off-season during the week and had no wait. We opted to eat indoors since it was very hot outside. Unfortunately their air conditioning is not up to par as it was very hot inside also but better than outside. This time we tried the spicy Krab rolls (imitation crab meat) and Caprese salad. The Krab rolls were okay (they tasted like a volcano roll at a sushi place) were very filling. I thought they would be a little lighter but still tasty. The Caprese salad was really good; I would have like to see more decent quality extra virgin olive oil and whole basil leaves on this dish but it was still good. Big Hickory has some good weekly specials in the summertime but we opted not to pick the day's special (two grouper entrees) as it would have been too much food for the two of us to eat. I was glad to see them have some specials though. We will be back again and explore more of their menu items I'm sure!

They ask a 2 months old baby to be changed on the bathroom floor or in the mid-day Florida sun-baked car ... they show poor manners and poor business ethics. When this restaurant is capable of blatantly failure to comply with the City rule/requirement ..., how can we or anyone) trust them to follow standard Cleaning Processes for Food they are serving? It really calls into question. Interestingly, when we pointed out their not following the city law, they fail to admit their deficiency but start to insult us, the customers ... using rude it is understatement) language.... Pretty sad : Just to show their low quality and low business ethics. Really call into question of how they would follow the appropriate cleaning procedures for the food their serving. Subpar food, overpriced, failure to follow the city law see above), low business standards/ethics. Not recommend. With such unsanitizing antagonizing attitude towards customers, do you think they wash their hands after bathroom before serving you your food?
This is my first review on Yelp, but I just had the worst birthday lunch. I brought my wife, mom and 2 month old baby to the restaurant and we needed to change our baby. There was no changing station and we were told to change our baby in over 100 degree scorching sun in the parking lot with no shade by our waitress (I think her name was Mia)? We did not do this for obvious health concerns (we are a family of doctors) and we changed our baby at our table. The waitress told us that she was disgusted and that we should change our baby on the bathroom floor. The owner came out and we thought we would receive an apology but only received more disgust from the owner. The restaurant didn't seem to care about the health concerns of our family. My wife left in tears with no apology. On another note, grouper fingers hard as a rock and the food is overpriced for the quality.
