Bondi Trattoria - Bondi Beach

The Tratt is back. Bondi Trattoria is an institution, which sadly lost its way but now Joe Pavlovich is in the kitchen expect delicious food. The hose made pasta is delicious, the crab linguini with abundant sauce and nice chilli hit was my favourite. Crackling pork and scallops, classic hearty food, just being, not trying, is a classic combo that I will return for. Bug tails in butter and chilli are delicious and continue to express Joe's love of heat similar to the seafood pizza. It's great to have a hearty, no fuss local gem of resto in the hood.

I was thoroughly impressed with my dinner experience at Bondi Tratt. I was keen to try the dishes here after Joe Pavlovich took over the reigns & it did not disappoint. We had the Beef tartare, egg yolk, parmesan, horseradish, toast, the Mulloway poached in olive oil & lemon confit, artichoke, cucumber, garlic chives, the Whole roasted baby barramundi, the Spaghetti, blue swimmer crab meat, cuttlefish, green garlic, chilli, the Golden beets, blue cheese, bacon, pear, macadamias, leaves, maple syrup & the Roasted carrots, saganaki cheese, honey, oregano, toasted oats & nuts. For dessert we selected ricotta doughnuts & the chocolate ginger bread tart. The food portions were generous. The flavours & textures of the dishes were in delightful harmony. Service was attentive. And they allow BYO Monday through Thursday which was a bonus. I look forward to returning & trying more dishes.

Location was perfect especially for a sunset dinner. Our experience with service was good, we were served shortly after entering and didn't have to wait long for drinks and most of our meals. Most of the guests at our table were pleased with the dishes. However, as a regular consumer and producer of authentic Italian, I felt the dishes were lacking in depth of flavour. For example authentic sauces require a lot of time and I felt the sauce tasted rushed, just a little longer simmering, and a touch of freshly chopped basil right before service takes a good dish to a whole new level. I had really high hopes for the crab, but I feel it was slightly unseasoned/slightly overlooked. I think this place has amazing potential though.

Location: Nice open environment with quite a nice view of Bondi beach Service: One of the servers was very polite and friendly, however we found that the others were slightly dismissive and were rough with the plates and furniture for no apparent reason which we felt affected the nice Italian, holiday environment Food: We ordered - - risotto aranchini with veal - zucchini flower - broccolini gnocchi with goat cheese Aranchini was slightly burnt underneath and size of each ball was surprisingly big. Not as flavourful as we expected - all the flavours were mixed together however cheese was very fresh and delicious. Zucchini flower was well floured and nicely coloured, cheese was once again very fresh - pretty good. Gnocchi was very well presented, sauce was very beautiful, the size of each gnocchi was definitely not bite size and bigger than my boyfriends ear (which is pretty big lol). However it was definitely fresh. Conclusion: Price to quality of food was fair, service was mediocre which tainted our experience.
