We chose the Auberge for our main stay in France and were well pleased with our choice. When we saw it from the road our anticipation rose - it looks so lovely and set in wonderful countryside.. Martine greeted us personally with a beaming smile and showed us to our room in one of the buildings adjacent to the main house. Don't be put off by any adverse comments on trip advisor re these rooms- we are very choosy and expect high standards and the room was big and absolutely delightful. The décor is superb and with fabulous views and just a few paces in the morning sunshine over to breakfast or in the early evening sun to Dinner. We had 2 bathrooms - one with bath and shower and one shower only. Martine has an excellent team working for her who while being extremely hard working still find time for a friendly chat and help with wine selection. Breakfasts and Dinners were excellent and such good value. The grounds are lovely with plenty of lounge chairs and sun loungers and the pool is small but clean and great on a hot day (pool towels provided). The donkeys in one of the fields provided a fair bit of entertainment and they loved the windfall apples we picked up for them. Take some stout shoes/boots because the walks in the area are lovely with great views from the ridges. And so peaceful. There are lots of medieval villages to see within an hour's drive and many other things to do and see. We would definitely visit again.
Local ingredients (some from the property itself), perfectly prepared. They even took into account my gluten-free needs. The wine list is great, and the service, impeccable. Can't wait to go back.
To those of you who expect a restaurant menu as long as your arm, and who have an aversion to sampling something different my advice is to read no further; this place is not for you.If however, like us, you are unconcerned about choice and are instead looking for really superb French cooking, using the best of seasonal and local ingredients, and avoiding the fads and ponciness of many trendsetting establishments, then I could not recommend L'Auberge de Concasty more highly. Plus, you have the bonus of a truly glorious setting in the rural Cantal. This establishment has been in the same family for two generations and Martine, the current owner, who is also in charge of the kitchen, works absolute wonders. There is more or less no choice - you get what is being prepared on the day. But I can almost guarantee that you won't be disappointed. From the amuse-bouches through to the delicately crafted dessert you will enjoy a range of culinary delights and mouth-watering pleasures. The ambiance of the airy restaurant - with a lively buzz of predominantly French family conversation - will only add to the experience.Service is far from quick. But this simply gives you a chance to relax between courses and just enjoy your surroundings. The carte du vin is not extensive but perfectly adequate - at least in our opinion - and although this is not a cheap meal it is well worth the price.
