Los Cauchos is basically like eating in your Colombian abuela's kitchen. It is an experience not to be missed. My wife and I were lucky to experience the Colombian culinary masterpiece of Los Cauchos. Unaware that this restaurant is reservation only, we showed up on a night when there were no other guests and they had not planned to open. The owner took pity on us hungry gringos and accepted us as her only diners for the evening. Of course, with us speaking little spanish and her speaking no english, this was not clear to us until the end of the evening. But in between was over an hour of the most amazing homemade Colombian cuisine imaginable. I had the Sobrebarriga chorreada, which blew me away. Wifey had a traditional tamale, quite different from the Mexican version. The portions were huge and we stuffed ourselves to the point we could barely walk. The food was so delicious we just could not stop eating. For the amount and quality of the food the price was ludicrous. Total was around $30 and I would have gladly paid 2x that. I've certainly paid 3x that amount for a lesser meal before. Our guidebook, which recommended the place, failed to mention the part about reservation only. Be sure to call ahead. Or hope for amazing Colombian hospitality and graciousness to hungry travelers. We will always remember our meal and be grateful for the opportunity to experience it.
We were brought to this fabulous restaurant find by our wonderful driver Margarita Bedoya. We were interested in the local Colombian cuisine and found it in spades at this gem in Bogota. It has the feeling of going to someone's house, but with expert service, open and friendly suggestions, and lots of great food, made lovingly with the freshest of ingredients. Gustavo, the owner, was full of stories and is well traveled and a delight to converse with. We were happy that this comfortable and welcoming restaurant was close to our hotel in the Candelaria district. We highly recommend it for a experiencing delicious authentic feast!
When traveling in Bogota it was highly recommended to us to try sobrebarriga so we looked online for a place that served great sobrebarriga because it was also our last night in Bogota. we came across the sole review on trip advisor and decided to go for it. We were NOT disappointed. Although oddly there was only ONE couple there and us, (the other couple left and we had the restaurant to ourselves) it ended up being a good thing because Gustavo the owner (since 1976) and our waiter gave us his undivided attention, knowledge and time. The food was EXCELLENT as was the wine. The restaurant is really cute and in a cute area as well. We were very pleased with our meal and so happy we decided to go with it though it only had this one review. Now it has two and hopefully many more to come. If and when I return to Bogota I will definitely pay Los Cauchos another visit.
Excelente comida típica. No dejen de probar la sobrebarriga en todas sus versiones. Buena opción para compartir y disfrutar de un buen ambiente. Gustavo los atiende como si fueran clientes de toda la vida.
