Despite not swearing like a sailor myself, I believe that the atmosphere and size of the restaurant make it stand out. The seating arrangements cater to all types of groups and the food is excellent. Having tried Irish cuisine in America many times before, I can say that the attention to flavor and quality in their dishes is impressive and unique. Whether you're looking for comfort food or a healthy option, this restaurant could easily become a regular spot for anyone. I absolutely love it.
Fun Irish pub in downtown Bismarck. Standard draft beer offerings like Guinness and Smithwick's as well as Finnegan's from Minneapolis. Plenty of unique and seasonal cocktail offerings. Unfortunately, we stopped for lunch so we didn't try any. Food was decent. I got the rustic beef barley soup and we shared the fish and chips. Soup was good, especially on a cold day. The breading on the fish was flavorful but I found it a bit thick. The tartar sauce was great and the waffle fries were crispy. The prices are on the high side but the atmosphere and drink menu made this a good stop.
I got the Guinness Irish Stew and my boyfriend got the Shepard's pie. Both were delicious! The beer came in a frosted cold mug, and I appreciated that small attention to detail because it makes the beer even better. Good atmosphere. They also brought in quite a few elements of a traditional Scottish pub while also still appealing to Americans. 10/10 would go again.
My wife and I came in on 9/1; our bartender/server/asst. mgr was awesome ! I had the shepherds pie, my wife had the Irish stew. We have traveled all over, including, Ireland...this was the best we ever tasted! The Harp beers were great also! I can imagine how great all of this would be in late fall instead of late summer (102° and finishing off with a good Irish Coffee.
I have been a loyal Blarney Stone customer since moving to Bismarck I even became a Very Irish Person (VIP). Unfortunately my family tried eating here with our one month old baby, but were not allowed as we had someone under 21. If this is their own policy, they should change it. If this is due to liquor licensing law, then we should have the law changed. Until then, we unfortunately cannot patronize this restaurant until all our kids are older as I am not sure if it would be worth the trouble of finding a sitter to go here as a date night.
