Tried my hand foolishly at the Italian next door (packed , ended up at JoJo's, thank the lord because the other option was a dry cleaners ; Thx Yelp mobile app. Live music up front, booth in the back. Opted for the steak, tater, grilled veges, and a drafty kilt. Was not disappointed. Crowd was local, and friendly. Shout out to the live music man (did not catch name but kudos for these three tunes in particular: 1 Bad Leroy Brown 2 Windfall 3 Redemption Song
I've heard about this place since I have moved to Birmingham. I wish I would have visited here a lot sooner. Place is a gem! Great place for a quick lunch or dinner. I had started out with the gumbo, it was awesome. The rue was on point and there was a lot of substance in the cup. It was served hot and didn't need anything extra. Since I was having a late lunch I decided on the wings. My buddy ordered the smoked wings and I had the fried wings. They were delicious, the wings were fried beautifully and the smoked wings had great flavor. I love the casual feel to the place and will be a spot I go back to
JoJo's is a great neighborhood diner located in Homewood's Edgewood district. None of the menu options are overly complicated. They feature traditional American options like burgers, chicken fingers, etc. and there is also a decent beer selection. This restaurant seems like a great local hang out. I went with the BLTA, with the A standing for avocado. It was a solid sandwich. It seemed like something I would've cooked at home. We also tried the Parmesan fries, which were delicious! The kids particularly enjoyed this restaurant, because of the casual atmosphere and availability of games. The staff is very friendly. Parking is limited in the Edgewood area, so be prepared to park on the street or make other arrangements.
I have been to the bar a few times. The bartenders are very friendly. This place is a local regular hangout. The beer selection is minimal. The food came recommended, but honestly both times I ate here it was below average in my opinion. They said the gumbo was really good. It tasted like it had been made three days earlier and microwaved before being served. The bottomline is if you want to have a beer in a chilled unpretentious place, this is an okay place to hang out. If you are looking for a bistro quality food with fresh ingredients prepared daily, then try Bistro V in Vestavia about 3 4 miles away instead.
The only reason I'm giving this four stars is because of the onion rings and the fried pimento cheese appetizers. I would go back just to have those. The service was mediocre and I didn't get the onion on my burger I asked for. Also, if you get the BAB burger, it does not have cheese on it : it says what comes on it on the menu but I guess I just expected it to have cheese on it and it did not. Would have been better with cheese : will be back but am hoping the service will be a little better next time.
