We have had several negative experiences with the service here, ranging from being seated at a dirty table to being told we would have to wait 30 minutes for the switch from breakfast to lunch. However, the menu is unique and the food is high-quality.
I'd wanted to try FoodAffair since they opened. Once I saw their Indian cuisine menu, I could wait no longer. The Shahi Chicken was delicious, the wine was reasonable, and the service superb. I can't wait to go back.
I've spent a bit of time near the corner of Utica Ridge Road and Spruce Hills Drive, mostly in Old Chicago. In more recent days, I've come to like Milltown Coffee and have started getting my car worked at Lund's 66. I can now add Food Affair as another favorite location after having eaten there for breakfast.The space is new and modern. The walls are a simple combination of orange, light grey or while, with the overhead more or less painted black. No drop ceiling here all the HVAC ductwork, steel supports, and strips of accent lights are all plainly visible. I'm not criticizing it's a good clean looking aesthetic that gives the space the feeling of more room.Upon being seated, we had our drink orders in and not long after had our orders placed. I decided to get a hot tea. I hadn't seen it done recently, but I was brought a hinged box with a variety of Bigelow teas to choose from. This was really neat even though there were only 7 or 8 varieties to choose from, the whole exercise of having the box brought out to choose from was cool in and of itself.I ended up having a vegetable omelet with sourdough toast for my entree. This was very tasty! Both fillings mushrooms and asparagus were cooked to a texture and doneness that complemented the omelet well. There was no excess moisture and the provolone cheese added a light element of smokiness that was also welcome.The general ambiance and environment was generally pleasant and conducive to conversation. The one improvement Food Affair should consider to make this better is switching to playing something other than modern pop music and turning the volume down. When the restaurant filled up more, the general noise level increased from what seemed like people trying to both talk over each other AND the mediocre music in the space. The music didn't detract much from the experience, but even removing it entirely would make for a likely noticeable improvement.On the whole, the food and the space were both wonderful and I'd definitely come back again. This is some of the best breakfast food in the Quad Cities that I've had by far. Thanks Food Affair!Vegetarian options: I had a lovely omelet with asparagus, mushrooms, provolone, and tarragon. There are other vegetarian options on the menu as well.Kid friendliness: There were children with their families dining on the Sunday when I was visiting. I saw high chairs in use at the time.Parking: There is plenty of free parking around the restaurant area. Even when the restaurant was packed, there were spaces noticeably available.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramped area right by the entrance that will permit wheelchairs to make it into the restaurant.Dietary restrictions: Items on the menu that are vegetarian are marked as such.
Really starting to love this place. Delicious breakfast items and my favorite restaurant coffee in the QC. It's slightly pretentious but I forgive that because you can tell how much thought and care the chef has taken to craft innovative meals.
This restaurant is closed to the public tonight, because of a private party. We found this out the hard way when we were turned away. They should have let the public know on their Facebook page and their website. No way to run a business!!! We were told by the manager that he isn 't responsible for their their website to be correct. We didn 't even get an I 'm sorry.
