Must visit when are in the town of Bernkastel-Kues. I would suggest to visit this place by the time of sunset. It’s so beautiful, the view from here. Don’t trust google/Apple Maps when driving to this place. We struggled a little to find the exact route. Search for schloßweg which is the road that starts from the main road near old town and then follow the route uphill. Parking is free and just one minute away from the castle. But it’s limited. You might also need some time to drive uphill since the road is narrow and traffic can go only one direction at a time. So there’s a traffic signal which regulates this and it might take upto 8 minutes for it to turn green. There’s a restaurant in the castle and also toilets for visitors.
You can access these castle ruins via car or a 15 minute uphill walk from town. There is no entrance fee so you can roam freely. However, if you want to visit the very top of the castle, you will have to pay a €1 fee via a turnstile. The castle provides excellent views of the Mosel and town below. It’s not a very large castle so it won't take more than 30 minutes to visit. There is also a restaurant located inside.
The views were amazing and the dining delicious. Would recommend for a lunch or dinner date.
The hike up was definitely challenging, but the rewarding view from the top was worth it! We also really enjoyed the food at the restaurant.
