Contribuiți la feedbackArrived at 9pm after a late flight and sat outside. The seating area was very nice, there were a few crowds eating good looking food and it was a warm evening. We had been travelling all day and were looking forward to a beer and a good German meal. The menus were on the table and we quickly chose what we wanted. The two waiting staff were in and out bringing food and cleaning tables. We tried to catch their attention but were completely ignored. After ten minutes we went inside and asked if we could order and were told to wait outside. Ten minutes later we decided to leave when the waiter came and took our order. The drinks arrived quickly and we didn't wait much longer for the food. We had two large platefuls of very tasty German food and two more excellent beers to wash it down all for under €40 .It'd be five stars if we'd been served quicker or even acknowledged. The restaurant is in a nice setting near Alexanderplatz and has a good reasonably priced menu but if it had been earlier and we hadn't been on the go all day we'd have left and went elsewhere. There are lots of other places close by.
Had dinner at Zum Paddenwirt Sunday evening. Sat inside to enjoy the old world atmosphere. Ida was an excellent server, understood English very well. Had their wild mushroom soup which was excellent and their Berliner meatball, which was a tasty spiced meat paddy plus potatoes with bacon. All tasty good. With a large beer and a Obstler schnapps the bill was 18.30 euro, not bad for a lot of food and drinks.
You know those places you find that you love, and aren't sure if you should share? That's Paddenwirt. My partner and I have been coming here for over 20 years. This last time was as wonderful as ever. Roasted duck and a sausage platter that sang, yes, sang with the most amazing Blutwurst I have had in my life. We typically visit in winter so eating on the patio was a treat. If you are polite and open to German food, you will be treated well even if you do not speak German. Charming, authentic, delicious, and did I mention the roasted duck with dumplings and red cabbage was around 9 Euros?
Whilst trying to avoid all the typical touristy places around Alexanderplatz, we wandered around the edges and saw this place across the main road.On approach it was nearly empty outside, which was a surprise as it was a fairly hot day. But we decided to take the chance and sat down. After a short time a waitress came out with a menu and we ordered two beers and a main course each.Service was quick and friendly and the food surpassed what we were expecting. We both enjoyed our meals and it was very good to relax outside, although I do gather the inside of the restaurant is very charming with its wood-panelled walls.A cool touch is the adornment of frogs and the small water fountain outside which the sparrows were making good use of for water! A really charming place to find in unlikely surroundings. There is a church near it too and some art galleries and its a really relaxing place to sit and eat.
Once a waitress finally brought us menus it became a fine dining experience. Excellent food (Tuna fish salas and an extremely tasty Vegetable-schnitzel). Place decorated with frogs - it was explained that tortoises (Padden) wer harder to find.
