Enjoy delicious food, served by an engaged team and hosted by the Berlin famous Matthias Buchholz. He was cooked at the "First floor" right in the heart of the city. His was awarded 18 Gault Millau points, cook of the year a Michelin star, Berliner Meisterkoch and, and, and. But this is more his, talking to his guest, enjoying them enjoying his creations. You will feel perfectly welcomed. The interior design is not to be alked about, nothing to distract, full concentration on the back to the roots food.is guests read as a who is who ( Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel, der Ex-Bundeskanzler Gerhard Schröder und Dr. Helmut Kohl, Queen Elizabeth II, Abdullah ibn Abd al-Asis, Saudi-Arabien, Hu Jintao Volksrepublik China, Colin Powell, Ex-Außenminister der USA und Condoleezza Rice USA or Kofi Annan as to name a few), even though he is 20 km away from the city center (which is quite a way in Berlin)
Britz is a part of Berlin most tourists never, and many Berliners seldom, visit. Which is a shame. There is a "castle" there, although it really is a large country house. The "Gutshof" restaurant is located in part of the renovated barn belonging to the former country estate. The immediate area is worth a visit: a lovely rose garden, several local museums, a park, and some animals for the kids. It is not particularly easy to get to Britz, but it is a worthwhile outing in good weather. And now to the restaurant. First advice is to reserve a table in advance: Mr. Buchholz was for many years one of the best - some say the best - cook in Berlin, having earned one star in the "Top Floor". His current restaurant, to quote the advertisement, is casual German country cuisine. Nothing will bowl you over, but you will not be disappointed either. The chanterelle mushroom soup (6.50 Euros) and the white asparagus soup (5.50 Euros) were both good. For main entries we had breast of veal with mixed vegetables and potato cakes and the pikeperch with lentels and mashed potatoes (both 23.50 Euros each). A bottle of sparkling water was 7.50 Euros. For Berlin, the pricing is rather high, but the quality of the products and cooking are perfect. The service was excellent, a mix of formal and familiar so hard to do right. In good weather you will want to reserve a table in the garden, beautifully landscaped on the former country estate. All in all a most enjoyable experience.
