We had the kochkäse with bread it was really good. Atmosphere is nice, a lot of space, and a big beer garden. Two negative points it was...a little loud, so it's difficult to chat. And the service is a little slow and could be more attentive.
Walked in off the street. Tried a couple of German beers and a light salad. All great and a very friendly waiter. Heaps of puzzles and games inside to keep you entertained. No wifi however.
The regular menu is limited to eight items including a schnitzel, pork steak baked with potatoes and tomatoes, cooked cheese, and homemade sausage. An ever-changing posted menu with about six items reflects the importance of serving in-season dishes (see photo). All breads, rolls, and cakes...are baked on site. My wife and I visited Café Alte Dortmühle in Bensheim as guests of a newly-discovered German family of my and cousins. We sampled almost everything on the menu. All was excellent. If you do not have the luxury of going in a large group, go back many times until you have a chance to taste it all. It’s worth the short detour from Heidelberg, Manheim, or Frankfort.
