When I asked the lady working if it was a kimchi base, she said “No, it’s more a unagi sauce mixed other sauces.” Why would you write kimchi base on your menu, very misleading! On top of that, the tuna pieces were the size of green peas and the rest of the plate was just cucumber. I’ve never seen tuna pieces cut up that small! My husband ordered the “First street special” which stated “smoked salmon…” and it turned out to be deep fried with a pea size amount of salmon?
I just started going here more regularly. Their food has been consistently good. Their roll menu is nicely varied. Don't expect any exotic fish here.
Food is always great at Kaigun (Benicia). Seaweed salad is deLISH! Service was delightful this trip.
I ordered Chirashi today and was quite disappointed with the $35 portion. The pieces of fish were very small, and the amount of rice served was not generous at all! I always try to support local businesses, but I can't do that when I feel taken advantage of. It's unfortunate because you've lost a customer over a dish that likely costs a maximum of $7 to make, yet you’re clearly aiming for higher profits!
Honestly, giving this restaurant one star feels generous. Paying $62 for food that was nearly inedible is beyond me. My aunt and I ordered a bento box that didn’t even come in a bento and a Pink Lady sushi roll. The roll was not edible; the crab mix was gritty, and the shrimp had a fishy taste that was far from just being deep-fried. My aunt's chicken teriyaki bento was disgusting—she had to send it back and ended up getting uncooked beef instead. When we expressed our dissatisfaction to the owner's wife and showed her the problems with our meal, she still didn’t seem to understand. Keep in mind this was after we had already paid. Overall, the food is not worth the money, nor is it worth ruining your taste buds.
