But inside- carpets so thin held together with tape , ceiling flaking close to derelict, bar, tables sticky and that old wet dog smell what was that. The worst though were the toilets they were a bio hazard- probably not their fault but i doubt they had a cleaning roster, i mean this is a public place, i seriously gagged. I didn't expect much from the wine but my partners face after a sip said it all. We left after a few moments of stunned silence. The bar girl was friendly, poor thing.
Went to the Forbes hotel for a bux party on the private top floor level. The room wasn't ready on time, bar had not been set-up had to wait more than 1 hour downstairs (paying additional $ to the bar tab). On this Saturday evening the manager (small Asian appearance) begun bouncing people from the party for no real reason all petty stuff which almost broke out into a fight with security however our group decided to leave as it was almost the end of the night. Given this event cost us 5k I would suggest that others do not use this venue for a bux event inexperienced and unprofessional management will ensure the night doesn't go smoothly.
Caught up with a girlfriend, I said let me take you to an old Pub which has been on the corner of Forbes street for many years, has got that old worldly character about it, the carpet is so old needs replacing, so worn out but adds to the character and charm of the hotel. I use to have lunch and drinks there when I worked for the HCF many years ago but it has not lost it charm and ambience about it. Toilets have had a small revamp but not much so has the bar. New staff, friendly, efficient food was good then and still is not a bad price for city eating. now has poker machines which have taken up some of the small place but well worth wild to drop in and reflect on memories which had been forgotten .good on you Forbes hotel. and thanks
Went in for a drink and to be far was a decent pint. Had to wait while the bar staff finished chatting to get served. There was a leak on the stairs going to the toilets which I guess can't be helped if it's only just happened. But not great.
After walking around town half the night, my friends noticed this place and it had VB on tap, they were happy, and they had other, good beers as well so i was happy too.I got one of the burgers which was pretty tasty, the chips had that taste of someone who should change their deep fryer oil a bit more. The beers were cold, and not too stupidly priced. It would be good if you could pay for meal and beers at the same till, having to do two transactions when the place is busy is a bit annoying.
