My husband and I just returned from a quick anniversary trip to Beaufort. When I booked at Rhett House, I read the five star reviews and saw the photos online. The photos do not accurately depict the condition of the rooms. We were specifically in room 14 of the cottages. The room was very small and the bathrooms dirty. Within the first five minutes being in the room, there was a washer that fell off the ceiling fan onto the bed. Afterwards we obviously were not comfortable with the fan running. There were numerous other factors with the room that led to an underwhelming visit. There were wasps on the front porch, a huge crack in the door, condensation left puddles on the bathroom floor after dripping from the vents, the front of the tub was zip tied together, the rug was in filthy condition, and horrible staining and mildew in the shower. When checking in on the mobile, I was given a code for the door to the room. Thank goodness the front desk called me and told me we would need a key and that the door code wouldn’t work. We had to hurry there to arrive before 9pm to obtain our key. The only security on the door was the keypad key. There was no other way to secure the door from the inside. I will say that the front desk staff was wonderful. Penny and Shanon were fabulous! The wasps nests were treated and only a few remained afterwards. If we were staying more than two nights, we would have checked out early. I would absolutely not stay here again. Just a heads up to other visitors, there are a ton of stairs to get to the front desk and/or breakfast so even if you are on street level be aware there are stairs. Also, if you choose pancakes for your breakfast, they do add cinnamon to them as well as the French toast. My husband has an aversion to cinnamon so all his breakfast consisted of that morning was sausage.
Absolutely wonderful experience— complete with Southern hospitality and charm. The rooms were lovely, and the breakfast absolutely delicious. We enjoyed use of the bicycles for tooling about the town. Staff was very pleasant, engaging and helpful with suggestions. We will come back to the in with our next visit to Beaufort, South Carolina.
I never review hotels or inns because they’re so “standard”. But Rhett House Inn is a step above. Heck, two steps above. Charming, beautifully decorated. Historic. And every amenity you would expect and then some big thick towels(even a dark one just to remove makeup), full length mirror, robes, over bed fans( a real luxury in the South), over lighted makeup mirror. Cookies in the afternoon, cheese&crackers late afternoon, and a choice of desserts in the evening. Staff is great too! Will be our first choice when we visit Beaufort again,
If you 're looking for good looking southern aesthetics, the Rhett House simply can 't be beat. The Inn almost looks like it 's been transported right out of a 'Gone with the Wind ' film. And speaking of films, the number of celebrities that have stayed here is simply mind-blowing. The reason for the 4 star review, instead of 5, is that during breakfast an older waitress with a less than pleasant demeanor started snapping at a younger waitress for an apparent attitude problem. If anyone seemed to have an attitude it what the older waitress and not the cute blonde. Long story short, this impression left a bad taste in my mouth.
