Mai's Restaurant - Bathurst

Very good, but giant fish in the aquarium at the entrance always makes me doubtful of the safety of the place.

We are fans of the chain of restaurants and while at a family gathering we thought we go for a nice sit down meal. When we arrived, the place was empty, we were greeted and sat down right away. This was the last of the good service and it went down hill from there.We waited patiently for someone to come take out order, but after 15 minutes we had to go to the front of the restaurant and holler into the kitchen. Once someone came to get our order, we had to repeat that these would be separate bills and at the end when it came time to pay, we had to repeat our order to pay for the right plates. When our drink order came, our server dropped 3 of the beers (Sapporo still in cans) and was going to still serve them to us. Have you ever opened a dropped beer can? Finally, our food arrived. It seemed to come out in an odd combination of dishes, so half were done while the others were just getting their meals. Remember the place was empty. The meal it self was not bad, but too salty and not great overall. I am sure I am being critical at this point, but this happened all at once. By the time the meal was over we were happy to leave. I am not sure if this was normal, but not a great experience at all.

Ate here after reading TripAdvisor, and so glad we did the food was brilliant, delicious and hot, we had one of the set menus and couldn't fault it. The service was excellent and really good value

Excellent choice to eat. Spring rolls are fantastic! Pad Thai was amazing! The noodles were cooked perfectly. The beef in the vermicelli dishes was so tender with the perfect amount of flavoring.

As the other comments said, it is true that the service is slow. The food is good, the spring rolls c is excellent but the soup po, it's okay, it feeds without more.
