Contribuiți la feedbackThe restaurant is huge, spread out over two floors. The main attraction for our group was the ample seating, affordable beer, and selection of real ales. We got what we wanted and it wasn't too crowded on a Monday night. The bartender, a young lady, was friendly and talkative. I ordered an American pale ale and a Kiwi pale ale, both of which were well-maintained, poured, and presented. The atmosphere was dark and dimly lit, but the tables were clean and we had a good evening. One downside was the condition of the men's toilets on the first floor. Although there were plenty of facilities, several urinals were leaking and the floor was very wet, with signs warning of the issue. One of the cubicles was open but had no toilet, just a hole in the floor, indicating ongoing construction. There was no soap in any of the dispensers, but the dryers worked fine. I did not try the food, so I cannot comment on that. It seems the restaurant has not received a three, four, or five-star review since around June 2022, which may indicate neglect over that time period. This was my first visit, so I cannot compare it to previous experiences, but I frequent other Wetherspoons pubs that are better. My local one in Wakefield is currently undergoing an extension and possibly a refurbishment, which was much needed. Will I return? Yes, probably to meet the same group of friends in Barnsley as it is convenient and offers good ales at a reasonable price.
Big mistake, absolute disaster. When I walked into this restaurant, I immediately felt a gloomy and unpleasant atmosphere. It was clear that this place was not up to par. After waiting for 30 minutes, I finally placed my order for a chicken burger and chips with a side of onion rings, only to find out they had no chicken burgers available. What a disappointment. I ended up settling for a double cheeseburger and chips, which took another 35-40 minutes to arrive. The waitress who served me was unfriendly and seemed to be in a bad mood. The food looked carelessly thrown together on a strange-looking plate. The burger was tasteless and unappetizing. I would not recommend this place, maybe 2 stars at best.
I had a very average breakfast that was not hot enough, which unfortunately led to food poisoning or gastroenteritis. This was the only thing I ate on Sunday before the women's football game.
I do go in this place once a week for a soft drink. One thing that you can rely on here is the entertainment, if its not the smack heads staggering around, bumping into tables muttering loudly about someone being a slag, then it's the highly amusing table of 10am drunken alcoholics shouting at each other while being sat 10in apart. Whilst the ongoing floor show continues you can sit with your hands on your lap because the tables are as sticky as the carpet. I have witnessed less and less people eating here, maybe due to the entertainment or because the food is as bad as I remember it, who knows. There's nothing like the beautiful sound of some greasy, unwashed bloke snorting mucus from the back of his throat and swallowing it while you're eating to really whet your appetite.
I can only presume the great unwashed alcoholics that frequented the Silkstone Inn now have moved accross to this Wetherspoons, the only one in Barnsley Town Centre. Where i have enjoyed a 'spoons ' in most places I visit this one needs new management, bar staff, chefs and cleaners as has become a real dump. The smell in the dimly lit downstairs area today was horrific and led to us just walking straight through and out the other door. Very poor.
