I used to spend a lot of time at Mikes Bites during my years studying in Bangor and it was a popular spot among my friends. I recently visited for the first time in three to four years and was disappointed to find that there are no gluten-free options available (except for a non-vegan full English breakfast that only includes meat and eggs). This is concerning as I never had any issues eating here before, so I'm not sure what has changed. It seems like they may not separate gluten-free ingredients from others, leading to cross-contamination. I am giving two stars for offering a vegan breakfast that my friend enjoyed, but it is worrying that they cannot provide any gluten-free options. Not everyone needs to be gluten-free, but having options for chips and hash browns should be a basic consideration for food hygiene.
During my time studying in Bangor, I frequented Mike's Bites often and it was a favorite among my friends. However, when I recently visited after three/four years, I was disappointed to find that nothing was gluten-free except for a non-vegan full English dish that only contained meat and eggs. This was concerning as I had previously been able to eat there without any issues. It seems like they may no longer have a separate preparation area for gluten-free items and have combined everything together. I gave them two stars for offering a vegan breakfast that my friend enjoyed, although I had nothing to eat. While I understand that maintaining a gluten-free and allergen-safe kitchen can be challenging, the fact that they offer nothing gluten-free is worrying and reflects poorly on their overall food hygiene practices. It is unnecessary for items like chips and hash browns to contain gluten.
I recently had breakfast at this restaurant for the first time in years and was pleased to find that it has remained the same. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, with a wide variety of options to choose from.
I have spent many mornings at Mike's Bites during my time studying in Bangor, and it was always a favorite among my friends. However, I recently returned after a few years and was disappointed to find that nothing on the menu is gluten-free, except for a non-vegan full English breakfast that only consists of meat and eggs. This is a change from my previous experiences where I could eat there without any issues. I suspect that they no longer have a separate fryer for gluten-free items and just cook everything together. I give them two stars for having a vegan breakfast option that my friend enjoyed, but I was left with nothing to eat. I understand that maintaining a safe kitchen environment for those with allergies can be challenging, but it raises concerns about their overall food hygiene if they cannot accommodate gluten-free options. It is unnecessary for items like chips and hash browns to contain gluten.
