Contribuiți la feedbackI frequently visit Ballarat and the best spot for a light lunch is definitely this restaurant. The menu is French-inspired and offers a variety of dishes, salads, pastries, and more. Today, I had lunch with some tea which only cost me $13 - a great deal. The staff is friendly, the music is pleasant and not too loud, and I enjoyed sitting at a window table looking out at Ballarat's Town Hall - the architecture is amazing. My friends in Ballarat mentioned that this cafe also bakes bread, baguettes, pastries, and caters for events. I will definitely be returning soon!
I have had the mushroom and spinach crepe previously and it was very nice. However this time it looked like soup as the crepe was swimming in a bowl of creamy cheese. The crepe fell apart and was hardly recognisable. I could only really taste the cheese and even after fishing out the solids, left the bowl half full of cheese. This dish is hit and miss so be warned if you are thinking of ordering it.
Sometimes you find these hidden gems. This is definitely one of them. Highly recommended.Their Service - impeccable. Very obliging (even with their music). Their Food - (I had French Onion Soup) - superb. Definitely House made and even the bread is obviously house made.La Kitchen 2U is really worth a visit or two or more. I can't wait to go back to try some more of their delights.
This is my 'home-from-home' cafe in Ballarat: the 'Tin Plate' experience when I am not in Ballan. Second visit this week. French Onion soup at its best, making up for my bad experience of faux French food in another place yesterday.
We went for lunch. Service was fine, food was average. I'll be upfront, i'm comparing our french onion soup with one we had in Paris and we were both disappointed. I feel that's fair as they portray authentic french food. The soup was watery/ no body and came with one cheese crouton that got kind of lost in the bowl. Had the soup been a bit thicker (and even less of it) would have improved it as would another crouton. That said, the home made roll served with it was excellent and came with European butter. Coffee was not to our taste but probably authentic (more french - maybe drip filtered- than Italian). To be fair, we have not tried their pastries/ sweets which did look very good. The next table bought a charcutterie type platter we were considering and, for $40, it was very lean. Disappointed as I would be one of the best customers had it been as authentic as they suggest
