This is the best Japanese restaurant on the northern beaches. All the dishes are made with fresh ingredients and is owned by a Japanese family. They use authentic ingredients and do not use corn flour.
Went here with a business colleague who lives in Manly. Not sure you would easily discover this unless you were a local. We were able to park on the street. It was cool and rainy and that forced them to bring their outside tables in....The inside is very small with little space so when you add all the outside seating, there is really only room for about 8 diners and that's in close proximity. So, this is clearly intended to be a takeaway or side walk cafe type of place. Service was good. There is a little bit of a language barrier. You just have to listen closely as the English spoken is with a heavy Japanese influence. It's not a problem, just pay close attention. We sampled a number of things including edamame, gyoza, soup, cooked fish and a sushi role. All was very good. They did not wait until the entire order was ready but brought food items to our table as they were to be served. I was pleased with everything and prices for the amount of food we got were very reasonable. All throughout our time there, the staff was unfailingly nice and helpful. This was my first time eating here though I'm a regular visitor to the area. I look forward to going back.
I absolutely adore this restaurant, it's always my top choice when I'm in Sydney. They make fantastic tempura, and if you ask nicely, they can even include avocado in it! Their miso soup, bento boxes, edamame, and sushi are all superbly fresh.
We tried Tamagawa when we moved to the area 3 years ago and now go at least once a month with our 4 year old for lunch or dinner. Yoko is really attentive and the food is very tasty.
