Red Lion Inn Axford

Get the room of the king charles. the gas house has been around 380 years. the king charles room, one of only two original rooms, is quite large with views of the kirchhof. it has a covered 4-poster bed that was very comfortable. the heating system was switched off for the summer season, but the summer clearly did not get the memo. So, fortunately, they had made very effective space heating available. the completely newly furnished bathroom was practically a shrine with a huge tub and showed cabinet. eating in the restaurant was okay, but not exciting.

A very nice place to stay. beautiful rooms with complementary refrigerator, yes, they actually get a free beer, wein. the room included a proper coffee machine and a coffee selection. the personal was fantastic and happy to help. eat good restaurant and a great bar. (they almost lost a star because it was missing from a day of hot water, but they volunteered a part-refund so that they keep the 5th star)

Stay 2 nights in the red lion, very friendly from the housekeeping, until bar staff at the reception. jana sam at the reception went the extra mile to help me get my phone charged. the assistent manager also gave me some post-jubilee union jack flags on my return to home. great terrace, fine good great fish n chips business directly opposite. recommended!

I visited the Red Lion Hotel on Sunday with my family for a couple of drinks before meeting some friends. The bartender, Danyal, was incredibly helpful and friendly. He maintained a warm attitude while serving me and my parents, engaging us in conversation about the beers available. He even chatted with my father and father-in-law about Belgium and its beers, which was a nice touch. I was also impressed by the number of languages he speaks—what a remarkable young man! I didn’t interact with the other staff, but I’m sure they are equally wonderful. I will definitely be returning to the Red Lion Hotel soon, and I’ll be sure to recommend this place and Danyal to all my friends. Thank you for making our Sunday so special! xxx
