Forthright Cafe - Austin

I LOVE IT HERE! I’ve never left a review for a restaurant before but they deserve it! Literally 10/1 food, staff, vibes, MUSIC even!! I had the smash burger, a mimosa, and my friend and I split a french toast because it looked good haha. AND IT WAS!! Compliments to the chef and our server. Cool mix of people. Very relaxing atmosphere. So happy we chose to come here :

Very disappointed. While the food was good, I was still eating when the waiter began pressuring us to pay. I found this extremely disrespectful. He mentioned a last call for food but never informed us of any time restrictions for staying.

Upon entering this establishment with my family (4 adults, 1 child 2 toddlers) I had a feeling we should have just turned around. We were greeted by two staff members that couldn’t hide their clear dissatisfaction at the sight of children. We ordered 5 entrees, 2 coffees. The food was less than spectacular; though the French toast was the best dish, and we certainly didn’t receive any extra service or attention. Nowhere did we see or hear any policy stating that they add 22% to your bill if you have a party of 5 or more, yet that is exactly what happened. So we ended up with a $145 breakfast tab! BREAKFAST! Also, a third person delivered our tab then hovered over my son in law as he was reviewing the bill. We had the same group for dinner out the night prior had dinner with Alcoholic beverages and our bill was less. Upon reflecting on this significant up-charge, we tried to contact the business none of the phone numbers listed for the business are answered or even correct. If you are looking for a flavorful breakfast in Austin I would not recommend this restaurant. And if, heaven forbid you have children or more than 4 people, avoid at all costs. Very disappointing experience.

Great spot for breakfast. A/C, good coffee, eggs done perfect. Highly recommended.

Very friendly, fast service, reasonably priced. Great GF options, especially the breakfast burrito waffle. One of our brunch favorites!
