Contribuiți la feedbackI've visited this restaurant a few times, and it's really impressive. The only reason I give the food four stars is that everyone I talk to raves about it, and it feels a bit overrated. It's similar to a movie that everyone hypes up, and then you watch it, expecting something groundbreaking, but it's just good—nothing life-changing. That's my take on the food here. It's definitely tasty, just not as extraordinary as I expected. The service, on the other hand, is excellent. I highly recommend it!
From the outside, it’s easy to miss this place nestled in a nondescript shopping center, but once you step inside, you’re instantly transported to a vibrant Louisiana hangout. The food is beautifully prepared, and the staff is incredibly friendly. The Po' Boy is generous and filled with tender shrimp. The gumbo and étouffée are well-seasoned and have a nice consistency—definitely not the pasty texture I've encountered at other restaurants. I can't wait to return and explore more of the menu!
We kicked off our meal with fried pickles and a cup of gumbo. The fried pickles were tasty—nothing extraordinary, but who doesn't enjoy fried pickles? The gumbo was quite good, though a bit on the watery side; still, it was among the best I've had in Austin. For my main dish, I ordered a shrimp po'boy. While the basic ingredients were solid, the shrimp had a bit too strong a fishy taste, which was disappointing. Overall, it was decent, but not something worth raving about. In summary, it's a solid little restaurant. I’d rate it 3.5 out of 5.
We always enjoy our meal when we come to Evangeline's, the fried pickles were one of our favorites in our most recent visit, chip style and very thin and crispy they were awesome. The cocktail sauce here is one of my favorite things, I get it every timeI visit. Definitely recommend for the food, the friendly and attentive staff, and music on the weekends.
We stopped in about 9 pm on a Friday night to hear a band that started at 10. Not being folks that just sit, listen to music, drink water and don't buy anything....(and you know you are out there) we decided to eat a little something. A 9 pm supper, especially fried Cajon seasoned food, is usually a mistake for old folks but it didn't bother us because the seasoning wasn't over done and the food wasn't greasy. I had grilled catfish and a few french fries. Kathy had fried shrimp and catfish. Both meals were excellent. The catfish was delicious and the fried shrimp and catfish were cooked perfectly. While it is a cozy venue, the sound system is excellent. Band a little loud but that's what bands do. I can't say enough about how friendly and warm the staff was. We will be back.
