China Cafe - Austin

China Cafe is my FAVORITE Chinese Food restaurant in the entire metro area. The ambience is calm and quiet and the prices are great. They have a lunch menu with some of the more popular selections but you can always order from the regular menu. The service is outstanding. The staff have always been very friendly and welcoming whenever I have dined here. I’ve never had to ask for a refill and they have been able to always meet my needs of having to change up a recipe, etc. Their sweet and sour soup is THE BEST I’ve ever had, anywhere. It’s a secret recipe comprised of different vinegars; very hard to replicate. I could go there and eat a large bowl of this alone and be happy. I have never ordered out from here but I can say I live in the northern suburbs and have driven into town just to come to their restaurant, bypassing several other choices of restaurants and Chinese food. The kicker? I’m not even real big on Chinese food so I am very particular on the Chinese food that I do eat. I discovered this place during my work week and I have brought my family here on my days off because I’ve liked it so much. Very good in my opinion.

Large servings of excellent food at very reasonable prices. The presentations are often very colorful and always very appetizing as befits the highest of Chinese culinary tradition. Accessible location with plenty of parking. Always enough to take home for another meal. Meryann is very friendly and very helpful. I am often surprised and somewhat relieved that this place isn’t packed at dinner. What’s not to like?

The Chinese food here is excellent. The lemon chicken is made with all white meat breast strips, and while the lemon sauce is a bit lighter and more liquid than I typically expect, it still has wonderful flavor. The egg rolls were a pleasant surprise and didn’t taste greasy at all! The crab rangoon was also delicious. Additionally, the staff is very friendly, which adds to the overall experience.

This is an excellent restaurant for delicious Chinese cuisine. My personal favorites are the Calamari and Combination Lo Mein. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They also have secret menu items—if you enjoy Filipino food, make sure to ask for pancit!
