Contribuiți la feedbackThe menu has changed a lot of the details here in Happy Cow. Now a mish mush of food from Thai Bao to Nepalese tons (I had damped these and they were terrible), and other things
At first I loved hearing Nepalese music in the background! This makes it a unique real experience. The manager was very friendly and helpful. 70% on their menu can be made vegan! I tried the Nepalese taco (mainly a roasted mash potato with vegetables = delicious fresh flavors) I also tried the vegan dessert. Sweetly cooked rice with which I love that we used to eat at home in Germany. This was with data, raisins and was nice creamy. I couldn't finish them all. So half was my bread for the next day. You even have a vegan lassie. But I was too full to try it too!
I found this on Happy Cow (thx HC! . Nepalese Curry dishes. Really delicious and healthy. On the first day we were in Auckland, we were too busy and went back to the opening the next day. Ordnete the Vegan Mushroom and Peas Curry Bowl, Rotis, Aaloo Tama with black-eyed peas and bamboo-shoos and Thukpaa (a soup with Bok Choy, noodles, tofu and more. Was really tasty, so we went back to dinner... all but one of the remaining nights we had available in Auckland so that we could taste other dishes again. So, YES...both my husband and I have lived this place. I highly recommend it. Owned by two partners (one is the head of Nepal, so he has both an Indian and Chinese influence. So good and very unique.
Really really nice flavorful vegan options, and a lot of them! We tried the big baji (a sample of different specialties with some amazing crepe on rice/soy flakes , curries, sauteed noodles and ginger veggies soup, and everything was really delicious. Plus the prices are more than reasonable AND they have a 15% student discount! Love their poster saying: Students of today, leaders of tomorrow, need good food! : Give it a try, it 's super conveniently just off the busy part of K road.
Had the Nepalese tea, tofu chowella and the vegetarian curry bowl and my companion had the seafood chow mein. The Nepalese tea had a pleasant mildly spiced taste and wasn’t sweetened which was nice. The tofu chowella was spicy and beautifully flavoured and vegetarian curry was mild and packed full of fresh veggies. It’s different to Chinese and Indian curries so would recommend giving it a go even if you’re not usually a curry person. The seafood chow mein also had a nice mild flavour. The portion sizes for the mains were huge (the curry comes with a HUGE portion of rice on the side) and good value weren’t overly oily. Loved the ambience too!
