Arepas Grill - Astoria

My husband and I used to dine here regularly, but after our visit yesterday, we were quite disappointed. We ordered two arepas, and they were not only extremely bland and lacking freshness, but the cheese in both was also very sour. It was really unappetizing—there was a distinct smell from the cheese that I can't believe they missed.

Generous portions, but lacking in flavor! We ordered both a chicken arepa and a pork arepa, and both were disappointingly bland and dry. I’m giving it 2 stars because the yuca fries and green sauce were excellent.

Beware! I strongly advise against visiting this restaurant as they engage in unfair practices. They add extra taxes on top of what’s already included in the price of each item, and then they apply tax again at the bottom of the bill. Additionally, they automatically include a 20% tip in your total—whether you like it or not. I had been a customer before, as everything else was satisfactory, but I won’t be returning again. Don’t be misled—always check your bill before making a payment. They may try to give you some confusing explanation, but in the end, you’ll end up paying twice the tax and that hefty tip. I used to think people from Venezuela were nice; it's disappointing to have this experience.

The food looked very good but the taste was a little bland. Everything was served in disposable plates and cups. They had sauces that paired well with the food but seamed to be sitting out for long periods of time. They had a band the day we went and it wasvery fun.

The food was delicious, the service was quick and friendly. Both sauces were excellent. There are plenty of options for both kids and adults. It's just a short walk from Socrates Sculpture Park. I can show photos, but we finished everything in our car in just 10 minutes!
