Fried chicken almost had no taste. the short ribs were excessively sweet, yams excessively sweet, geese and mac and cheese breast. very young staff, a bit attentive, but guideless. all in all, a great disappointment after the reviews we read.
After reading the many good reviews of this place I went with high hopes. I was very disappointed. I love good soul / South food, but it's hard to find and I didn't find it here. I start with the positive ones. we arrived early for our reservation and we sat immediately. the server were friendly if not completely efficient. the hornbread was good. that's it, now to the negative. they brought the mentioned maisbrot, but no butter. I had to borrow some of the table next to us. hot soße seems to be in short supply. I think there was only one bottle that was led from table to table. also they were from several things I wanted. pretty much a clip in every southern restaurant is icy and limonade. they were out. so no uptown for me. I ordered the smashed truthahn wings. I'm sorry, they're out, okay, so don't start a good one, but I'll find something else I'll enjoy. So I stick to my usual faves, roasted whistle with mac and cheese and potato salad. mac and cheese are hard to get right and unfortunately, for me anyway, this place is not. and the potato salad was so bad that I actually had to spit it out. it wasn't even cold and tasted like it had gone bad. the warm try of this shurler, which is to be kept cold, tells me that it wasn't in the refrigerator. the fish was okay. it was hot and well cooked, but lacking taste. at this point, the experience for me was not worthwhile. I went on a Sunday and they had a buffet available, but I decided to order the menu to get a freshly prepared meal. no matter what, that was just not good for me. I gave 2 stars instead of one because my man was eaten by the buffet and seemed to be in order with what he ate. but he's really not that hard to please. I ate a piece of fried chicken from his plate and that was pretty good. it's disappointing because I'm always looking for a good soul eating restaurant and apparently my search continues.
I'd go back there, just for the free maize bread (muffin) that seemed fresh from the oven. Fried chicken was crispy yet tender as it should be. But my favorite were the salmon cakes that had a kick lemon to him. The cozy feeling of restaurant and friendly staff was an additional bonus and made for a truly psychic experience.
On Sunday it was over. It was very good. They were only on the side, I tried to place the order, but nobody answered. So I had to wait for dinner. But it was good.
