Far and away the best spinach soup I've ever had. Highly recommended.
We went to Arrow Rock to attend the Lyceum. Chez Trappeur was our second choice, but after reading the reviews, decided to make reservations there for our special evening. Upon arrival we were shown to our table. She was less than friendly and seated us in a room that was charming, but my husband's back was to the door. Our server came to our table quickly. The wine list is advertised as excellent. However, they had only a few to choose from making it very limited. The table next to us were shown a list of wines to choose from, however, we were not given the same list. We ordered an appetizer, the mushrooms. They arrived, weren't bad, but were barely warm. Our server then told us about the choices for the evening. My husband chose the Pork Wellington and I chose the Halibut. When our meal was served, it was not even brought by our server. Now, for the review. The Pork was not hot, the pastry was soggy, the pork was tough and dry. My halibut was also not hot, very dry and really not very tasty. It was supposed to be served on a bed of wild rice (which was not done), with a creamy caper sauce. No bread, rolls....nothing. No one EVER inquired whether or not we were enjoying the meal. And BTW, this was at 6pm, when food should be the freshest. We ran into the other couple that was eating in the same room and they said the same thing! Save your money. Don't eat here.
This restaurant was actually the second choice of a group of ladies I was with today. We'd heard about another local place to eat and planned on going there until it got too difficult to contact the first choice for reservations. After numerous attempts to reach them, we gave up and called Chez Trappeur. Dianne was more than happy to accommodate our group of 7. Like seemingly everything in Arrow Rock, the restaurant is small and right along the main street. Today the place was crowded with folks grabbing lunch before a production at the Lyceum Theater but it was clear Chez Trappeur is used to waiting on big groups of diners. Our service was fairly quick and very good. All the foods looked great. I had a salmon burger with a very tasty tarter sauce. I'm not sure what was added to that sauce but, whatever it was, sure tasted good slathered on my burger. One person in our group ordered the pulled pork and said it was a good, more sweet than tart bbq. The quiches and crepes also got very good reviews from women at my table. Be sure and have the chocolate mousse for dessert. It's soft, rich, and a perfect end to a very good meal.
I always have yummy food here and a great time! If you eat outside there is a beautiful green garden patio area that has trickling water, colorful flowers and warbling birds. Inside is very cozy and beautiful, just fantastic decor and atmosphere. The food is delicious and I love love love this place!!! Definitely try it if you haven't yet. Perfect place for a date or an evening out with friends!
