So, understandably they were still working out some kinks and the servers and bartenders were still finding their footing. Clean, contemporary, casual western/Mexican interior. American-Mexican restaurant with a solid and limited menu of the basics and some specialty items. We started with the chips salsa, flautas, and 2 house margaritas. Chips were light crispy, salsa was good with a bit of fire-roasted flavor. Margaritas were excellent for the $8 price. Flautas were good flavor with a solid portion and some tasty guac on top. Followed up with birria, chorizo, and lamb mole tacos, and a chicken quesadilla for my kid. All were very good. Portions were above average to go along with the above average price. We thought it was good value for the money. Their hot sauces are made for the restaurant, were not too hot, but very delicious. I was able to talk to the operator (owner? and he said that they don't have a happy hour yet but one is on the way. Beer: They have 20 taps and plan on having 10 of those constantly rotating with craft options. They had a Burley Oak IPA on there and it was delicious. Unfortunately it wasn't marked, so I have no idea which one. It was juicy, hazy, and delicious. Edit: it was Lost..., which makes sense. It seems like they'll have that on tap most of the time. All told, a $60 tab for 2 margs, 1 craft beer, 3 tacos, chips/salsa, chix quesadilla, and flautas. I'd say we got our money's worth. We'll be going back. Especially once they have a happy hour.
Wanted to try it for ourselves after mixed reviews from others. We went for happy hour and I think that was a good call as prices were good. I liked my shrimp taco and my husband really liked the birrha (spelling?? taco. The gringo we got my son was blah and the chorizo was good but it didn't need the extra sauce. Next time we will leave sauce off. Flautas were really good and we were happy with margaritas. Service wasn't bad but bartender did seem to take a long time getting drinks made even though it wasn't busy and didn't seem to have much else going on. Wouldn't go for regular price as not all tacos seemed worth the full price but it's a good happy hour spot and we will try again.
I've been to Rico's a few times now. When they first opened the food wasn't great and it was overpriced. Since then, they've changed chef's and the food is really good. The drinks are strong for my liking, but they certainly aren't shorting you on the alcohol. The fajitas were delicious as were the tacos. My only gripe is that it's a bit expensive compared to other Mexican places around here. I took one star off for the cost and for the heavy pour, but I will certainly go back.
Sorry but no. Taco filling were mediocre and only only tortilla. The taco disintegration is instant as you tried to take it consider putting 2 tortilla or different tortilla that is not paper thin. Service was a joke. Poor young server had not training and was so nervous. No ideas of what ladies happy hour was, carrying a tray or clearing a table. No supervisor around to help her and teach her. Chicken garlic wings were soaked in some gravy. Terrible. Price were excessive. Menu is ridiculous. No salads no imagination. Had Tacos in high priced hood in DC and VA and they were 4 bucks each and delicious. Glad we didn't order the beef fajitas for 20 bucks. This place is mediocre at best. Very disappointed as we waited and waited for this place to open for a while. Will not go back.
Rating is after 3 different visits. Once for take out, once for apps/chips&salsa and margaritas, and once for a full on dinner. So I hope I have a well rounded POV on this restaurant. Location wise, it could be a good mine, but in short they missed the mark pretty badly. I may be a little spoiled by the local likes of Visa Taco, Mi Pueblo II, Jalapenos, and Mexican Cafe. Overall, it feels like the spent way too much of the budget on the decor and bar, and not anywhere near enough on the menu and the quality of the food. In our experience, the staff was ok at best and not very attentive. A deeper look into the menu, it's extremely limited, too much overlap between dishes. On the last occasion, I ordered 3 different tacos, all 3 were exactly the same outside of the choice of meat. The level of flavor was pretty disappointing. This is never the case at the above restaurants I listed. Now with the somewhat disappointing food, the pricing is leaning towards the higher side. Yes, middle of no where Ohio this might be top tier, but this is Annapolis and Rico's Tacos is wildly outclassed in the food and drink department by a number of near by options. Sadly, it all comes across like someone with a ton of cash that doesn't know this area, thought they could jump into the higher end Mexican restaurant business and they thought they would kill it due to the fancy appearance, up market pricing, and prime location in a densely populated upwardly mobile area. Its a solid let down for us due to how close it is and how much we love great Mexican food. My wife told me to smack her if she ever thinks about returning.
