Cake Box Bakery - Arlington Heights

This bakery has a classic, old-school vibe and offers no-frills simplicity as soon as you step inside. The staff might not be particularly attentive, but that's not a major issue. They offer a range of pies, cakes, and cookies, although it seemed like the selection was somewhat limited on a Sunday. I decided to take home an apple pie and a lemon meringue pie. The meringue was toasted and crunchy, which was quite different from what I typically expect, and the overall flavor wasn't very appealing. The apple pie was a bit better, but not exceptional enough to warrant a special trip back. The frosted cookies looked beautifully decorated, and I now regret not trying one of those instead.

I really enjoyed their Almond Twist pastry. The prices were much more reasonable compared to many of the upscale bakeries I've visited in the area. I brought home a variety of baked goods, and it didn't cost me much at all.

When I picked up the cake, I was absolutely thrilled with the result. They did an incredible job of piping our theme onto the cake, keeping it simple without an overload of flowers or extra decorations. The cake itself was moist, the buttercream was perfectly balanced and not overly sweet, and the lemon filling was refreshing. All of my guests really enjoyed the cake.

Super cheap and super tasty! Chocolate cakeballs (99 cents each, a total bargain! Moist, super rich and delicious! Turtle brownie $1.30 Awesome! Caramel and chocolate in perfect harmony in this rich treat. Chocolate covered brownie on a stick $1.49 Cute idea and seriously a great price! Similar items in the city are triple the price. Not to mention every piece of this sweet was super tasty. Cupcakes $1.89 each I had a yellow cake chocolate frosting that left something to be desired. The cake on the cupcake was super moist and delicious and the chocolate frosting was great, as well but the frosting was spread way too thin on top of the cupcake. It looked deceivingly thick but really they need to put a bit more on their cupcakes. My total was $9.87 for 8 goodies for me and my friend. A fantastic bargain I'll absolutely be back!

This bakery has been around since 1949 catering to peoples' sweet tooths. And even though bakeries are showing up in places like Jewel, Caputos, Marianos and Costco, none can match the freshness or flavor of baked goods that come from a specialty store like this. This is an old fashioned bakery where the ingredients used are still the best available. Natural ingredents, like real butter and sugar, not ones dictated by corporate to improve profits and conform to health standards that don't matter. So if you want to spoil yourself or the ones you love, and want them to smile every time they take a bite, bring them stuff from here.
