Le lion gourmand - Arles

Non vedevamo l'ora di terminare la cena per fuggire dal rumore infernale della musica ad alto volume in un locale rinbombante. Cibo senza pretese. Gentile il personale ma non basta.

Wonderful position next to the Arena with an outdoor terrace. However, please avoid the boeuf stroganoff. The Lady Chef maintains that according to her recipe it is cold lumps of raw meat covered with paprika and served with fried sliced potatoes.

This restaurant is directly opposite the Arena and from the Central Tower of the Arena you look down at it. 2 years ago when visiting Arles we couldn't get in at lunchtime as it fills up from about 12:30pm. We were earlier this time. There is only outside space, covered by bamboo screening and canopies, so shaded from the sun (south facing). Additionally there are vapour misters - somewhat defeated by the canopy, but the thought is there.The menu choice is limited to typical brasserie fayre, faux fillet & frites, magret & frites, salads etc. We had steak - frites, and a moussaka. The steak was tasty but a liittle undercooked as it was sinewy, and the moussaka was tasty but a bit dry as it looked pre-cooked and then reheated. It was however more successful than the steaks. We had a nice crisp rose in a carafe to go with the food, and a bottle of Badoit water. I noted that another guest asked for her steak to be cooked more. The salads looked okay. We would probably choose a different place if visiting again, there's lots of choice in Arles.

Nous avons trouvé cet endroit notre premier soir pour prendre un verre puis nous y sommes restées diner! Pas déçues du tout, serveur très gentil et agréable, cuisine fraiche! Ma fille a voulu que l'on y retourne pour leur magret. Belle terrasse avec comme vue les Arènes! +++
