Contribuiți la feedbackThere were 3 in our party. We had two evening meals here. One experience was not good, service indifferent, white wine warm and meals uninspiring and one meal choice frankly not very tasty at all. Second night we all had the same...beer battered fish and chips which was well-cooked and good. Wine was cool and service better this time. Wouldn't rush to go back though
Good Service, nice room. Really good portions, get the seafood platter, it's enough to feed 2 or 3 and the smoked salmon is amazing.
I stopped in here for one of the nights I was in Port Ellen. I only discovered it towards the end of my trip or I might have eaten there a bit more. The place had the styling of a classic old hotel restaurant. The menu wasn't huge but there was a decent variety of portions. I settled on the fish and chips. It was really quiet when I went there but I was still surprised as to how quickly my meal arrived. The portion was huge and very tasty with a variety of sides. Really enjoyed it. The only negative thing I noticed here was that they seemed to be a bit understaffed, as later on some more tables filled up and I got the feeling that this put a lot of pressure on the place, so might be difficult when it's full.
We were told there were only two good places to eat in Port Ellen, so we went to check out both and they were a bit pricey and busy so we walked a little further up the street. We came up to a quiet hotel and bar on the edge of Port Ellen. The food here comes in large portions and is cheaper than some of the other places. They also have a good selection of Islay scotch. We had the nachos and steak pie, and both were good. With few dining options in Port Ellen this place is not to be missed
Good food I has the goats cheese to start mmmm delsih and then the chicken burger... and they call it a whopper for a reason! and all very reasonable
