Taj Mahal - Argyll Bute

I went with my colleagues while working in Campbeltown. The food we ordered seemed to be hot/medium spicy as stated on the menu. However, it was actually quite bland and needed more seasoning. We were also surprised to be charged for popadoms and dip that we got when we arrived, as we assumed it was complimentary. Overall, we paid around £67 for 3 main dishes and bread, which we found to be a bit pricey and not worth it.

The food at this restaurant is incredibly tasty. I was looking to try something different, but was concerned about the spiciness. They kindly accommodated my request and prepared a milder version for me.

The food tasted nice however, the service was poor. I ordered a chasni but was brought a bhuna. When asked about it I was told the bhuna was the best curry in the restaurant and I was lucky. No apology. It did taste good but that is not the point. The chicken pakora hardly had any chicken and was mainly batter. Worst pakora I have ever tasted. I heard the next table saying the same thing. The irn bru is from a multi pack which states should not be sold separately. My partner’s mixed grill was good but it did not come with rice only curry sauce. The menu said it came with salad but the restaurant was “low on salad” apparently so no salad. Really disappointed with our meal. Had been previously when working in Campbeltown but this time it was poor.

The poppadoms were fresh and tasty but the sauces and plain chopped onions not so. Our meal was exceptional, really tasty and plenty chicken in mine and lamb in my brothers. The pilau rice we ordered came as vegetable rice and a small nan. I questioned the rice I was informed much better than plain pilau rice. 2 pints and a lemonade with blackcurrant £53. On getting our bill I questioned why especially my meal was 9.50 yet charged 10.95. I was informed tandoori chicken was in my meal and the vegetable rice obviously more expensive than the plain pilau rice we ordered. I stated that if they give out foods not ordered then they should not be charging the extra. So for that reason only I have given 4 stars.

Food average. Mostly onion and tomatoes with small pieces of chicken Nan more like a chapatti . Overall taste nice but very small portions
