Loch Long - Argyll Bute

The room had stained carpets and poor tea and coffee facilities. There was a broken switch on the wall with visible wires. We stayed for two nights, but no cleaning was done or towels were renewed despite requesting them at reception. The bar area had stained seats and did not appear to be cleaned thoroughly. The ladies in our party found the toilet in the bar to be dirty, with an overflowing bin and visibly unclean cubicles and sanitaryware. We will not be returning.

I cannot say how disappointing of an experience this was. I wanted to have a fun sit down meal for the last night of my trip. I’d walked past this place a number of times, and they have advertised a few of the items they offer. I did further investigation online and decided to come for an early dinner following a day of hiking. Wow it was a terrible experience from the get go. Firstly, finding where the restaurant was in the hotel proved a challenge. The super rude lady at reception was zero help and sent me on a wild goose chance. I was about to give up (and should have in hindsight! but a very kind lady who worked there actually walked me through the restaurant. Going in, it felt like something straight out of a campy 80s movie. I was told there was an event so I’d need to finish eating by a certain time. The room was entirely dead although someone else came later. It was dead silent. No music, no chatter, nada. It was obvious the waitress was run ragged between the upcoming event and waiting on the 2 tables. I asked several times if it would just be easier if I went elsewhere. She said it was ok and brought the menu. Let’s say it felt like a bait switch. They lured me in with items outside advertised on a banner I double checked, and no where on the banner does it say these items are not served for dinner. Instead you’re offered a pathetic menu du jour with no pricing apart from a multi course offering. I thought I’d still give it a go who knew? Maybe the limited menu meant the food would be great. It wasn’t. For the first time in my life I left a restaurant and had to go elsewhere mid meal because it was so bad. I got the pea soup (was actually ok but the entree was something that was clearly a tasteless microwave dinner. I wish I’d taken a photo but was in too much of a hurry to escape and find a decent meal. Surprisingly, even though it was clear I’d hardly touched my plate, the waitress didn’t ask me if things were ok. I asked for the bill and was sent on another wild goose chase to pay. It was so painful finding someone to pay to that I almost gave up and left. Finally I found a barman who accepted my payment. I shared with him what an awful experience/meal I had (saying the wine he served was the only bright spot . He said he’d go find out if they could do anything, but at this point I was just so ready to leave and given the experience thus far I knew I’d be waiting ages. If you’re staying at the hotel, I imagine you’ll suffer through a meal here. But if you’re not staying there, I would avoid it like the plague. Thankfully I left here and hightailed it to the chippy across the street and had an awesome takeaway.

We stopped off for sandwich, some issues affecting all the region with deliveries so some exclusions however very accommodating and made up bespoke sandwiches for us. very helpful

Had a fantastic stay here for weekend met lots of nice people rhe staff from front desk( fiona) liam Ian amanda z staff in restaurant all amazing couldn't do enough under circumstances; due to covid staff have so much more to do in both restaurant area and other areas , people need to understand this and be patient. Rooms were nice spacious, met a lot of lovely people, Will be back x well done lochlong long hotel you are amazing Pauline and peter

I recently returned after spending 2 nights at this restaurant with a coach party. There is no porter service and the rooms can be a bit hard to locate. It seems like they are gradually renovating the place. They could use more cleaning staff and new towels. The staff are lovely but seem quite busy. The food wasn't great, so we ended up trying a fish and chip place across the road or the Village Inn about a mile away, which were both good alternatives. One of the chefs had walked out on the day we had dinner. The location and scenery are nice. With some renovations and more staff, this place has the potential to be good. It's about an hour away from Glasgow.
