Mussel to start and scallops for main, both dishes absolutely blew me away. Every forkful was amazing. The depth of flavours made be feel ‘warm and fuzzy’. Service was great, quick but not as a compromise to the food at all. Can’t wait to come back with my husband and eat again.
We have been coming here for fifteen years and the quality of the the food has just got better. On this occasion we came for lunch midweek. The lunch menu has got very limited and this was the first time I did not have a fish dish. My partner ordered the kedgeree which is always good. However it was served cold. We sent it back and a warm version came back. It seemed to be in a tomato based sauce and not the classic curried version. In fact it was very unappetising and we just had to leave it. It was taken off the bill and we were offered a glass of wine, however this does not make up for the poor lunch experience. I suspect there is a new chef whose standards do not live up to previous incumbents. Shame really, we will have to move on to Inverary for our next trip.
Did both dine-in lunch and take-away. LUNCH: Had the scallop thermidor as starter, then the lobster. Scallop was nicely seared and cheesy. Lobster came with flavourful garlic butter, although I would have preferred if it were cleaned of all the barnacles. Service was friendly and attentive. TAKE-AWAY: There is a deli section. I bought 2 items: Seafood with rose marie sauce sandwich was only average, very little meat. The smoked haddock quiche was flavourful. As a tourist I could not buy the smoked haddock itself (as that needs a fridge), so the smoked haddock quiche was a good alternative!
I'd recently bought and eaten fresh oysters outdoors in Oban and I was keen to do the same at Loch Fyne. I bought a takeaway box of 6 prepared oysters with great expectations but it didn't really live up. The oysters were medium sized and the only preparation had been to remove the top shells. Luckily I had a spoon in my vehicle that I could use to separate each oyster from their shell and let me eat them. In Oban, the oysters were large and had been fully prepared for eating there and then. I guess that I had misunderstood the takeaway option.
You won’t find Oysters any fresher absolutely amazing experience great friendly atmosphere also a great shop
